I think it would look nice where the crosses are; you might be able to arrange both on the wall in that spot.

I think the size and shape is too similar to the TV to work there.

Since your dining room furniture is dark, I think the mirror will look fine there. You might consider an area rug that has some white in it for under the dining table to tie in with the kitchen. I don't mean to offend, but I would remove the crosses and many other things because it's difficult to see your living room when there is so much clutter. That large, dark letter P is particularly painful. However, it's your home and you need to feel comfortable there.

Really important to think about placement...what do people want to see? Mirrors are great at a 90 angle to a window as it reflects light, especially nice with candle light but in a dining room you don't want some person to sit there and watch themselves shovel food in their mouth all night. Same thing in a living room. Think hard about what you want to see.

Annie is right about the mirror in the dining room; I hadn't thought about that part of it. I would put the mirror in a closet somewhere until you're decluttered, and that includes the yellow floor vase with the flowers and, frankly, just about everything else on the walls, the mantel and other flat surfaces that you don't actually use. Then you can put back things that are really meaningful to you in some way or that you love, in a way that makes sense, not just scattering them around. Some people actually like clutter and feel more comfortable when they're surrounded with it, and if you're one of these people it's better to accept that, and ignore everything I've said.

The more I read on this forum, the better I understand why I personally like (or dislike) mirrors in certain rooms. When I look around a room, I want to see something or someone I like...a person, art, window, etc. and not a reflection of myself eating dinner or watching tv. Mirrors are for checking to see if my hair is ok or if the coat I've chosen is the right length, so best in bathrooms, bedrooms, or by the door. I agree with Annie and others and would put this lovely gift somewhere else in your home that would be useful to you.

Agree with Ingrid and dragonflywings42. The first step is to take down what you have on the walls, declutter and come up with a plan for each room and put back only what is meaningful. Clear space on the walls is just as important as what you hang on the walls.

Most of what you have is hung too high. It (art, mirror or whatever wall hanging) needs to be at eye level which is approx 58 inches from the floor to the center of the art. There is some flexibility in that figure, but the art needs to relate to the people and the furniture.

What is contributing to the haphazardness is your horizontal surfaces are completely covered with stuff. The more stuff that is out along the surface the less we see because it is all jumbled together. Start with a clean surface and only add back a few pieces. There has to be a place where the eye can rest.

Carmen, you already have a mirror right there over the desk.

I really wouldn't hang the mirror until you have cleared the space so you can actually see the best spot. Use this as an opportunity to revamp your space. If I were in your shoes, I would remove everything off the walls and the surfaces and sort through to find the gems and add back about 1/4 of what you have on the walls and less than that on the horizontal surfaces.

Do you have a foyer? That's often a good place for a mirror.
