Coffered Ceiling Color
Comments (11)We're having a great room in our build. The kitchen is open to the breakfast area which is open to the living area. We're having beams of some sort to separate the three areas. I think we'll coffer the living room. My thoughts have been to do something like BM Revere Pewter on the walls and possibly doing a warm green blue on the ceiling between the trim. I LOVE that look in the photos I've saved. If we don't end up doing that, then I plan to tint the ceiling at about 75% of the paint color we use. In the other rooms that are non-coffered, we'll probably do the ceilings at 50% of the paint color that goes in that room. I just don't want white ceilings when they can be something more. I definitely thing that with a coffer, you should have contrast of some sort. Photos for you... Painted a color or a tint: This is similar to what we're planning to do...a coffer in the living (but a looser one than this) and not do one in the dining/breakfast area): White:...See MoreCeiling fan vs ceiling fixture
Comments (24)I'm sorry for the confusion. The problem started when the KD didn't allow for the actual size of our table/chairs (he hasn't admitted that, - only my opinion). Where it is "designed" to fit, I think, encroaches into our family room. If we move it toward the kitchen a few inches, it encroaches into a doorway. This wasn't discovered by DH and me until too late to change - cabinets had been ordered. KD keeps insisting it is a good design and all will be well. I wasn't convinced. However, I know that if we were to buy a different table/chairs, we could buy one that would break down to a lot smaller size and then we could put it in a completely different location if we wanted to. Buying a new table and chairs would be cheaper than changing the design at this point, but still more money than we can spend on top of what we're already spending, at this point - we must live with what we have for at least awhile. So, there must be a light fixture somewhere. I'm sorry the design plans I have are on really large paper and I have no idea how to get them posted here. KD met us this a.m. as we were leaving for work and I brought up this dilemma to him, again. His solution is to rough for a ceiling fan. That way, we can decide to put up a fan or a fixture. We are going to put it in the center of the room, however, versus center of where we think the table might go. The focal point, when you walk in, will not be the ceiling fixture, but the hutch that's going to be built along the back wall. If I put in a ceiling-hugger, non-descript but tasteful fan, I think it will be fine. Sorry to carry on. My stomach is in knots -- you all probably know the feeling -- and I was just about in tears when he arrived this a.m. He has put me at ease and I think now that life will go on. Thanks....See MoreCoffering the bedroom ceiling for a ceiling fan
Comments (3)How about a wall mounted fan? Consider fans from Matthews fans and Fanimation. There are a few more options. I have 8' ceilings and the huggers are wonderful and work very well. My huggers are from Modern fan. I saw that Matthews Fan just added a ceiling hugger that is also very appealing. Good luck!...See MoreBuilt in and Coffered Ceiling
Comments (17)I think this is difficult since if you do build it taller to the ceiling but leave it positioned as such it won't look right with the tv area not being centered on the coffer recess.. can you move it over? I'm not so sure you really get the sense of a "built-in" since it really is more of a freestanding piece visually.. I also feel like there is normally some sort of soffit created for the depth of the built-ins. Not sure how you can integrate this without redoing the coffer and the molding. Here's some pics I found ; one touching and one not. Hope this helps a little! I do also like the 2 depths - adds something nice to the design... Good luck - Do a lot of doodling before committing to a new plan...See Morehappyday321
