I've figured out how to save time in the garden ...
Comments (1)I'm so sorry. It must be very very discouraging. Don't give up on your roses though. If it was a one-time visit by the deer, your 'well-pruned' rose may surprise you and put out wonderfully strong new canes. I know that happened to me....See MoreHow I've spent my summer.....a pictorial
Comments (35)Hi again, Kate....I don't recall exactly which it came from many years ago....either Pickering or Hortico, but it was grafted. The funny thing is, this rose has 'self-rooted' for me a couple times, where its canes had bent down to the ground and where the cane touched the ground, it rooted. Its very low-maintenance and gets no special treatment, yet rewards me every June with amazingly beautiful and plentiful blooms. It would be a perfect rose, except it does sport some nasty thorns, so be forewarned. In spite of them, I adore this rose and its one of my favorites. I'm posting one more picture to convince you...lol. Florence, thank you for your always endearing words of support & love. My dad is doing great now. He stays with my brother now but drives to his house so he can still have his amazing vegetable garden. He is turning 87 next month and still has the most LUSH garden I have ever seen! Dad is nearly hidden when he is working in his garden. You may recall a post I did about him & his garden a couple years back....well here is a picture of him the other day in this year's garden. Thanks for asking about him. He did have a bad fall awhile back and couldn't walk for awhile, but he's walking & climbing stairs again. Good to hear from you, Carla! I have missed you. I hope all is well in your life. Thank you for your kind words. mille fleurs....that is so sweet of you & I appreciate your taking the time to let me know you've enjoyed my pictures. Its not easy being a cold-zone roselover! Becky, thank you for your cheer and compliments. I always love to hear from all of my friends, and it does a heart good to know I have some wonderful rosey ones. Thanks, All.... Comments (18)Cindy, thank you, I do love a variety! Isle of Zanzibar still mesmerizes me when I see it bloom! Lisa, I've had Morrie Ott for about six years in my garden. It is one of my all time favorite mini's. Some of those pretty edges you refer to had a hard time opening this morning. Mississippi Memories being one of them. Sharon, thank you. Enchanting Esmerelda is one of those that need to be in the garden for its performance and beauty. Will always reside here! Julia, I love my neck of the woods because the dormants do well here as well as MOST of the southern breds. I feel I have the best of both worlds as far as what I can decide to grow here! I've had Cerise Masterpiece three years. It has not increased rapidly for me here. Started as a single fan, now has three fans and the blooms still are not pristeen. Hopefully it will show itself off a lot better by end of this season! dreamingdaylilies, I moved Way Past Cool to my new deer protected bed last fall, so this picture really doesn't show it in its full beauty. I'm sure it will settle in nicely tho. As far as Morrie Otte goes...I've never had a problem with Morrie here. You might be right as far as temps being too cool. Rita, one of the reasons I like looking at all your picks! You have so many things I don't that I get nothing but pure enjoyment looking at yours! I have to admit purple being my favorite, I still fall for all those pinks with gold edges! Thank you all for taking the time to take a peak into my neck of the woods! Comments (8)Good old view master. I remember when this hit the market in the 1940s. As children, we did not get one - money was too scarce at the time. We had to make do with an old stero-optican and about 300 slides that my mother inherited. My sister still has it and the slides. When mother died, I examined some of the slides and found that we had slide no.1 : A picture of Sears at his desk. Another slide of note is a view of the moon shot by the famous scholar, Rutherford. A note on the back of the view-card tell how the stero shot was made. The 2 frames were shot one month apart. There was just enough difference in each view to make the stero effect. It is stunning. Now, I wish that we had used greater care when we played with these. The set show sign of wear. Those view cards are collector items now....See Moreldstarr
