Trying to brighten up my dark and open kitchen.
Comments (23)I have most of the colors in this thread on my walls now. I tested Gray owl and Stonington Gray in the bathroom and am going with Gray owl. Stonington is too blue. I have Revere Pewter, Edgecomb Gray and Balboa mist on a few walls now and am leaning toward Balboa Mist for the living room and dining room and Edgecomb gray for the bedroom. Revere Pewter is too dark. All the colors look different depending on the amount of sunlight in the space. Have you considered changing out your lightbulbs to a 4100K or 5000K colors?...See MoreA Yellow Kitchen Brightens Up This North London Basement
Comments (19)I learned many decades ago that colors that work in the UK rarely translate to the US and vice versa. The same holds true for color in CA and FL working in the Midwest. Natural light is everything where color is concerned! Also, what might work in a highly contemporary house may be heinous in a traditional or very old house. Just as with real estate, it's all about "location"!...See MoreKitchen Help! Not sure how to brighten it up?
Comments (92)Color. You need color. The paint samples are all nice but they won't do anything to cheer up/brighten up that kitchen. If you don't want color on the walls, then use your lightest Warm Neutral, brighten up the space with accessories and doodads in a bright cheerful color... and I myself would paint the dining set a matching bright cherry color. (Meant to say cheery, but Cherry sounds pretty good!)...See MoreKitchen Ideas to brighten it up/ update it?
Comments (8)Wow, yours is the house with the random shelves you don't need, right? And you've been living there almost a year. What changes to you hope to do? To start, I would paint the walls a bright, cheerful apple green or turquoise. Possibly remove the spindles and the curvy piece over the sink. Can you tell what the backsplash is made of? Whether it is possible to remove it or not? I wouldn't invest in backsplash or counters until you know what other changes you hope to make. Do a search on painting cabinets--much harder and more complicated than you might think. Good luck!...See MoreAmy
