Small Bathroom Help 6'6'' x 5'. Convert Bedroom to Bathroom?
Comments (17)You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)...See MoreHow did you decide on your bathroom look?
Comments (20)Thanks Rookie!! Pinch -- the vanity was an existing honey oak vanity that we stripped and stained black. The countertop is uba tuba. The paint color is all the same just photographs differently in different light -- it's Laura Ashley Taupe 6. The bathroom was done on an extreme budget. All tile was from Lowes and was dirt cheap...the brown bricks were the most expensive at $5 per square foot, the rest was under $2 per square foot. The field tiles were Sienna Almond -- in 12" x 12" and 6 x 6. The flooring will also be from Lowes at about $3 per square foot. Towel bars also came from Lowes (are you sensing a theme here) at about $35 each. Mirrors were an incredible Hobby Lobby find -- 50% off, $50 each although I had also picked up some lovely ones from Kirklands that would have looked great in the space but switched to these at the last minute. Our main goal in redoing the masterbath was to remove the cultured marble shower panels and eliminate the door. We wanted to widen the shower door for wheelchair access. Also, our countertop was cultured marble and had a lot of crazing around the drain. We found a good price on the uba tuba. Good luck on your bathroom!!...See MoreMakeup Lovers; Where do you put your Makeup?! / Bathroom / Bedroom
Comments (16)I keep all my makeup in a caddy in the master bathroom but carry it, with a magnification mirror, to a bedroom window that gets natural light. That way I don't wind up with a clown face when I go outdoors! (The master bath doesn't have a window, and I didn't want to get one of those makeup mirrors that change to natural light since I have a wall of bedroom windows with all the natural light I want.) It's an excellent system....See MoreFor you guys that run your own Bathroom remodeling company
Comments (9)You start small. Like replacing vanities/fixtures. You need to know local codes quite well. Example: I once remodeled a bath(left tub/shower combo alone) by replacing the window, new toilet, new vanity, new faucet(adding shutoffs), new floor and painting----all legally sans permits. How? Local codes said doing one of those things at a time was legal without permits, doing three or more required a permit. Makes a huge difference in costs/time. You need to take on small jobs that bigger companies will not---that usually means a lot more work. So easy work/lots of profit are not gonna happen. If you have experience in interior waterproofing, you have a leg up---waterproofing a bath is the single biggest problem for warranty work, at least in my experience. Bad tiling is second---and tiling right is not simple. A really good way to get experience is to volunteer with a local Habitat chapter and actually build houses---and baths/kitchens. Or charities like Christmas in October/etc....See Moredreamdoctor
