Size of two chandeliers in my family room? Pls help!!!
Comments (3)Great question! While our light sizing guide doesn't cover this exact scenario, it does mention the idea of using two chandeliers to light a long dining table. In that case, we recommend choosing a chandelier that is one third of the table's width instead of table's width minus 12. Perhaps we can adapt this advice for use in your family room. Your room is 21'x16'. Our standard ambient-chandelier advice suggests adding those numbers together and then looking for a chandelier that is that width/diameter, or 37 in your case. Maybe instead of doing that, you could look for two chandeliers that are about 25 inches in diameter (1/3 of 37 is 12, so 37-12=25). Then, each chandelier can be hung in its 'half' of the family room. The standard hanging height for a chandelier in ambient use is 7 feet above the floor. Of course, you can adjust this hanging height as needed, perhaps hang the chandeliers a bit higher, so as not to obstruct the TV. I hope this helps!...See MoreChandelier size help, please!
Comments (10)Thanks everyone. I really need wanted to stay under a $400 budget, and sadly anything bigger will blow that. :-( I'd like to change current chandelier because a) I wanted to bring in some bronze and then tie it in with a bronze curtain rod, and b) the current chandelier is part of a set of two, the other which I replaced already. Lastly, and I don't know if this makes sense or not, but the current chandelier seems too tall. I do like the width, but it seems to overwhelm the room--and not in a good way!...See MoreHELP! Comments (5)Wait for others, particularly pros, to chime in since you want a wide range of experience. I, however, wouldn't use that or any chandelier. I just think it's too small. A five-foot island over which you can only put a single light needs, I believe, to have something rectangular so it can spread out the light, so to speak. But that's me. I'll be interested in others' opinions....See MorePlease help with chandelier size!
Comments (5)IMO the mirrors need to go I rarely like mirrors in a DR and to replace those with a huge piece of art will be the best thing you ever did BTW those mirrors look cheap and they are and do not work with thetable. You could look at wall paper for that wall too.. As for chandelier IMO the first thing I like a light to do is actually light the table and those ones you show are cheap looking and do not light the table . Waht style are you hoping for / BTW very often the chandelier is the star of a DR so that is something you might want to think about. What are the chairs like? Do you have a rug , a buffet ? I would be looking at drapes for thos ewindows and scrap the blinds that are not attractive at all. if you need to control light and heat use solar shades they also let you keep the view and daytime privacy and the drapes give you nightime privacy and also add to the feel of the space .It is not just size that is an issue it is the actul fixture those ones you show could be huge and still look too light .I think a DR needs to be well lit and awesome . Elegant is a nuce look and something like this for a cahndelier with some beautiful faux silk drapes in a color from a new rug could be awesome. Even the fixture in the top pic could work but IMO a linear fixture is a better choice....See Morestephanie Miller
