HELP! Sizing on single Pendant/Chandelier over Kitchen Island

I have a 60 inch island in my kitchen. The recess lights are oddly spaced, so I can only place one fixture over the center of the island. I am having trouble finding rules of thumb on sizing for a single pendant over a kitchen island. How big should I go? I found one that is 15.75" wide and I do not know if this is too small.

Would something like a rectangular pendant light work? It would spread the light over a wider distance than a single bulb.

Not just a single bulb... I just dont know how wide I should go. I don't want it to be too small.

yikes. i dont know what you decided in the end, but i would have gone with a huge, single light fixture over the island - like those ones with multiple globes. not 3 piddly lights. they would just be dwarfed in all that extra overhead space.

My ceilings are just under 8' and I have a tall husband worried about bumping his head on pendants lol. Our island is 9' long but only 40" wide. We went with clear pendants so visually they weren't intrusive. Played around with how far off the island and found a height that worked for us (my husband). Wait for others, particularly pros, to chime in since you want a wide range of experience.

I, however, wouldn't use that or any chandelier. I just think it's too small. A five-foot island over which you can only put a single light needs, I believe, to have something rectangular so it can spread out the light, so to speak. But that's me. I'll be interested in others' opinions.

That chandelier isn't big(wide) enough but it also really needs a high ceiling or to go over a dining table height location. It appears long.
