I have a similar question... our island is only 5 feet and we are planning to have 2 pendants. What size do you recommend and how low do they usually hang?

If you want to use the existing locations, consider semi flush mount rather than pendant. You can install a kit to convert the can lights to accept a regular fixture. If you are open to moving locations, then an electrician can wire for pendants over the island, and you can get the holes patched. It all depends on the budget. Good luck!

As most common distance to have the pendant over the island/tabletops are 36", I would go with that distance but as you have a high ceiling and more room to play with I don't see why 4' couldn't work! I think it can look fine! Also, our lighting could be a great addition to your home. We do custom lighting so we will be able to work to feed your needs and wants. Different amount of pendants, and size of canopy etc. We also do 2D drawing before so you can have an idea of what it would look like before committing! how much space between the pendants. Ann, in both comments I mentioned a guide up in my first comment. I guess you keep missing it? here it is again,,,with 3 others. these should give you the needed spacing to choose pendants. while you can play around w/the distance between them, the height should be right at 30" or so, with no more than 36" from the countertop. Since you're going smaller, you don't have to do the 30" between. smaller sized pendants can be a tad bit closer 7" is a mini pendant and far too small to use over your island. shoot for 10-14"
