black out shades for triple window baby room
Comments (17)I've tried all the options, well almost, for both my kids' rooms and my husband's office where he needs it dark for reading images on the computer screen, and room darkening drapes are by far the best. I have purchased both inexpensive room darkening drapes at Target and the roc-Lon blackout liners. The dark colored curtains (navy or chocolate brown) from Target (or Penney's) work the best and I mounted them a good six inches beyon the trim to keep light out from the side. The lighter colors don't work as well. The roc-Lon blackout liners work great too. I originally purchased them to attach to the existing curtains in my kids' rooms but they were too heavy and cumbersome. So I ended up purchasing a double rod and hanging the blackout liner on the inside rod and their curtains on the outside rod. I've used blackout roller shades but light comes in on the sides. When I had those I either used Velcro to get them to stick to the window (not attractive) or hung thick shades that hung to cover the side gap....See MoreUnable to find true black out curtains...should I just go to shades?
Comments (43)You could also hang the curtains on rings that attach with metal clasps. That makes them easy to remove to clean. Most draperies and curtain rods have "returns" on the sides. You could run your blackout curtains on rods underneath the outer ones. Putting them all on rings allows for them to be pulled to the side and opened. A curtain that has a rod pocket and is threaded onto a rod is not able to slide open. You might be able to slide them back with some effort, but that is awkward. I recently put my grand daughter's curtain on rings so that it could be opened. Her mother and other grandmother are more attuned to closing themselves and her up into the house. They never cared nor questioned that the curtains were permanently closed. That was back in September and the curtains are still open as I left them. The curtain is a very nice custom made one that I made. It was hung on a temporary basis that never got addressed for two years until I put it on rings. She is only three years old and I don't think she even knew that there was a window there. Now there is a little more than just an overhead light in the room. Now there is some real daylight. If you use separate blackout curtains it leaves your outer layer of curtains to be changed when you feel you need something different and you still have your blackouts. Have you looked at buying blackout lining at Joanns? Do you sew? You could do one solid panel across the window, as opposed to one on each side, and just have it slide to one side when you wanted it opened. I used to do draperies and they used to sell one by RocLon that worked quite well. That was some time ago and things may have changed....See MoreCant figure out my new long narrow living room!
Comments (21)we did give you great ideas. you chose to get mad and say we aren't helping you with what you have. You're the one who wrote and said 'it wasn't working". and "you can't figure out how to make the furniture work". Correct? Why is that? because the furniture is too big for that small room and the way you have arranged is not the best layout. That's it. you can attack us and pout for pointing out the obvious, but it's not going to change the fact that your two sofas are too large. no one said anything about having a 'showroom' living room. we were trying to point out what the best solution for your small room would be. (and patricia pointed out a possible fire hazard, and you got upset about that too). That being said, you can either keep your two sofas where they are, or flip them and put them on the other wall. Those are the two choices. Pick one. But don't put us down for trying to help you understand that fitting a square peg in a round hole doesn't work. fpmac,,,,seriously? attacked? nasty? show me where. OP asked a question. we answered it. It may not be what she (or you) wanted to hear, but it's the truth. The sofas don't work. I really don't know how else to say it....See MoreHELP With Long Narrow Living Room(s)
Comments (76)That brown leather is light and attractive. One thing about a brown leather sofa or chair is that it always looks "right" and natural, like a found treasure. I mean, you expect a leather seat to be brown. It's not your choice. it's timeless. So it's a great neutral and it will go with other thngs quite well -- including ocean blue, as you can see in your other mood board. About the only limitation I've ever had with leather seating is that they don't take throw pillows easily (slippery) but throws warm them up....See Morenewconstructionoptions
