sponge Drawer
Comments (6)I think it has to do with the confined space the sponge ends up in. Just about all sponges will harbor bacteria, mold, mildew, but the tighter the space the more growth you may have. Plus think about having to clean the yucky black stuff out of that tight plastic holder over time. EEEEWWWW! I'll be honest here...I had a sponge tilt out drawer for 10 years and used it maybe the 1st week and that was it. The sponge was back on the sink edge. It was just much easier to access there vs. the tilt out. Putting a handle or a pull on the tilt out isn't usually a comfortable idea as it digs into your tummy as you're working at the sink. That leaves you the option to grab the edges and pull to open it. Maybe you could place your sponge on the holder in the cabinet under the sink just inside the cabinet door. It's still dark, but there is greater air circulation as it's a much more open space. The only thing you have to clean at that point is the holder and it pops right in the dishwasher as does the sponge....See MoreTilt-out Drawer Question at sink
Comments (28)So, Cevamals' solution will still work I think. The screw heads will still be sticking into the inside of the caddy. You can get a rubber washer to sit just under the screw head to absorb and stabilize that extra screw length, and also make a seal when the caddy is in place. Make the hole in the caddy larger enough to allow the caddy to fit over both the screw head and the washer. Washers come in all sorts of sizes, you can find one that is just right. Your contractor just didn't bother getting the proper length screws for your piece. The screws that come with fixtures aren't always the correct length for the cabinet construction. I, on the other hand, unknowingly bought handles that came without any screws. So I had to go the hardware store to get the proper size and length....See Moretilt out under sink inset cabinets hinge too long for sink
Comments (5)"if I have to seal up the tilt drawer to get another inch closer. I am short ... every inch counts in my world" I have that problem also - being so short! I also planned to have my fake drawer front turned into a tilt out when my handyman changes my sink this next yr. My counter top already has the sink hole in it (obviously there's a sink in it now) so there's the possibility those inserts will be too wide (front to back) to fit - hadn't thought of that!...See MoreJULIEN sink SPONGE DRAWER - Can anyone weigh in?
Comments (16)So... I don't want to put a rev-a-shelf in front of the sink because I want the sink as close to the edge as possible (I am short). Additionally, the Julien drawer has holes in the bottom for draining. @Debbie SL - the problem with your solution is that I have more than just one sponge. There's a sponge and a scrubber and a plastic scraper and a long brush and another long brush/sponge for baby bottles, as well as a cellulose shmata for wiping down surfaces. I'm now wondering though if I am doing sponges all wrong - in which case I now want to know how I can do it better. And as for the sponges never drying in the drawer, my sponge has never dried on top of the sink either, so I'm okay with it. @Heather N I am obsessed with your caddy and I might just do something like that instead. Thanks everyone....See Moredrbevdc
