LindaC, there's a lot of that too, and they stick all the junk into the box with one "OK" item, so you have to take the whole bunch. My garbage man hates me...

Here is the vase. As you can see, I stuck a ruler in there, it's about 10 inches tall and weighs a whopping 5.85 pounds, according to the kitchen scale:

It's heavy enough that I could put branches of lilacs or those heavy-headed peonies and it wouldn't tip the vase.

I've gotten some good buys, from Le Crueset and AllClad skillets to NordicWare cakelet pans, that Zojirushi rice cooker, the FiestaWare, tons of canning jars and now this. Since I'll now have $28 in it, I hope it continues to function and I can get some use out of it. Don't even ask me about the garden cart that turned out to be a child's toy/miniature or the live traps that turned out to be about the size to catch a chipmunk!

That’s quite the buy! I’m with you on the smoothie thing. I bought a Vitamix several years ago and have used it only a handful of times. I wish I’d paid only $9 for it. Lol.

Go to eBay and buy a tramper for this model. It will be very useful. Or make one. I have a you tube video on how to make one.

You may also buy or make a noise shield. It may be too noisy and may damage hearing because your kitchen is very reverberant.

I thought that I was doing great last week. I was killing time in a thrift shop while Moe was at his physio appointment. I found a Unicorn Pepper Mill for $2.00. New would have been over $40 Canadian plus shipping.

That's amazing, Annie, and I bet it will outlast you, too. Those old models were really built. Agree that I'd get earplugs or something, though.

Blendtec but similar. I even take mine when traveling so I've got a side-eye looking for another at all times. Or just another base unit since I have three big canister, one for dry grain...and the newer smaller one for small mixes and batches.

You will need a step stool, lol. So darn tall they are. Mine is built into the countertop next to the sink. All jars in the cabinet above so very easy access.

Yeah, I thought it was a good buy, but I'm already wondering if there is a shorter pitcher/container available. I'm thinking I should use it a couple of times before I buy anything else for it...

Anyone in the market for a fake acrylic bust of some Roman/Greco guy? Made by Basco/Attila Italian Reproductions, LOL, it's still in the garage, although I tried to convince the Princess that she could put it in the bedroom and hang her necklaces around the neck. Still had a $35 price tag on it too. (grin)

I bought the extra dry container for mine, and I use that more than I do the wet one. I also have the tampers (they can with), but I almost never use them. The dry blade container makes the best bread crumbs, but I bought it to grind grains, which I have not yet done. The dry container is shorter and smaller than the wet container, and so that is the one I leave on my counter, since the wet container will not fit under my cabinets with the lid on, but the dry one does.

Incredible buy!!! I would buy or make a tamper as well as possibly a dry container. I had to recreate my stepsister’s Italian nana’s wooden spoon after an encounter with a VitaMix.

Friend of mine puts the container upside down, the lid on top, and the it fits on her counter. Mine lives on a pull out shelf, the container gets to snooze between uses...as it is to tall, and has to lay down.

agmss, I did find a tamper on Amazon for $8, so that's in my "cart", I probably should go ahead and buy that.

Moni, I hadn't thought that far ahead. I do have a pull out shelf right under that space. Right now it's holding glass casserole dishes, but I could rearrange. It wouldn't fit upright, but there would be enough room for the base and to store the container on its side.

The vitamin website has lots of recipes and take a look at the demonstration recipes. Almost wish I had one! There's a recipe for "green " ice cream that your grands would be fascinated with made with spinach but I don't have it anymore. They were doing a demo at Costco one time.

Annie, given the price of paperback novels and movie tickets, I think your auction lot was worth the money just for entertainment value!

For me, the most important thing my Vita-Mix does is the smoothest puree ever without straining. Perfect for soups, and like a leap out of the middle ages compared to running soup through the food mill with three consecutive smaller blades then straining through cheese cloth. Just pour the whole thing in the Vita-Mix (or maybe in halves) and zoom, you're done.

It also makes perfect emulsions. I've never had an issue making mayonnaise with a whisk, but again...zoom!

LOL! I thought one of the two switches is for reverse.

Vitamix 3600 and 4000 has reverse switch.

I re-wired my blender to have a reverse switch. It's helpful for blending dry ingredients.

I forgot to mention my all time favorite use for my vita mix is making margaritas! and my youngest daughter favorite use is to cut up the fruit for the cranberry jello stuff we make at Thanksgiving.

Mine does not have a reverse switch, but the dry container has blades that are oriented in the reverse position from the wet container. In the wet container, ingredients are pulled down, and in the dry container, they are pushed up, which is supposed to make a more even grind. I guess if you had a reverse switch, you would not need separate wet and dry containers.

I'm curious to know what "local online auctions" are?

linnea, we have a local "on-line auction". This week they have in excess of 2,000 items available for viewing on line. Like eBay, they have a week for people to make bids, on Thursday night the auction is over. If you win an item you drive to their warehouse to pay for your items and pick them up. You can visit at any time to see what's available or if you find an item on line that you're interested in you can go to the warehouse to see if. They sell everything from cars to furniture to guns to coins to canning jars. Anyone that has something to sell takes it to the warehouse, fills out a form and it's put into the auction. It costs $2 to list an item for sale. No clothes, used bedding, stuffed toys, I don't remember what else. We've sold some furniture as well as buying things.

My local auction is JNJ Online Auction in Fremont, Michigan. I know other communities have similar organizations. They do not ship, you have to go pick your stuff up yourself, but you can actually see it in advance, so that's a benefit.

You might want to check on line and see if there's one close to you, but it's an addiction, just be warned! (grin)

Your super-bargain is very similar to my 5200, which I love. Look on the VitaMix website. There is a smaller container available, both in the dry mix and wet mix blade configurations. It really doesn't bother me to leave the cover in a nearby cabinet.

linnea, I put in the city and state and "on line auctions". You'll get those things where they never seem to stop, but if there is one local, it'll pop up. I actually found out about ours because they had a vintage Volkswagon microbus and Elery wanted to stop and see it. While we were looking at it the owner came to tell us about it and when we searched "JNJ Online Auctions", well, there it was...
