Gambling on an $8 VitaMix

OK, so I exaggerated, it was actually $8.32. I've managed to get some good buys at the local on line auction, and a few that didn't work or were damaged. Last week there was a box that contained some candles, a nice cut glass vase, a bunch of picture frames, a small Aroma rice cooker and.....is that a VitaMix blender? The description said "box of household items" or something like that, and stated that the appliances were "untested". Should I take a gamble that it works? Or not? And I don't see a lid.....

I got on line and found that it was an older model, but still available "unused, in the box" on Amazon for $259.00 and parts are still available. Elery is pretty handy, so....

I set my "limit" at $10, in case I had to just throw the entire box out, and won the auction at the grand sum of $8.32. So, did I waste my $8.32?

The vase is big, heavy, pretty, appears to be crystal, the right size for large flowers like peonies or lilacs. So far, so good. A couple of the frames are pretty nice, but the rice cooker is cheap and small, although it appears unused.

What? The VitaMix? As I thought, there was no lid, but the container is large and appears very gently used, maybe even unused:

Assembled it fits under my cabinets without the lid, if the lid is tall, it won't fit:

What's that? Does it work? Oh yeah, it works. On every setting, and the cord isn't even dirty. A new lid was ordered for $20, and I watched a 20 minute YouTube video to figure out how to use it. After spending 7 minutes getting 15 seconds worth of information I found a user's manual on line and just read the thing. (grin) I hate those videos.

So, it appears that when the lid comes, in a couple of days, I'll have a fully functional VitaMix. I see recipes all over the internet and there's a "dry" blade available for grinding corn or coffee beans. I'm not a fan of smoothies, so I'll never make one of those, but I'm sure I'll find other uses for it.

So, I think this may be my best buy ever, but I'm withholding final judgment until the lid comes and I actually use it for something.
