Built-in corner cabinets in dining room or dining area
Comments (6)annab6...I was looking at corner cabinets after reading this thread. Are yours flush with the wall? I found an example of one that looks like what you might find in an old house. (See link) It's sort of a black and white rendition but looks like it's treated like the trim. I love built-ins and I love corner cabinets so your thread got me looking at them :-) Thanks monablair :-) I think my builder thought I was nuts when I said I wanted cabinets the whole width of the room. He kept saying SHOW me what you want so DH and I drew these one night on a napkin when eating and talking about it at Chili's...lol. We still laugh about our napkin drawing I handed the builder. Here is a link that might be useful: Corner Cabinet...See MoreWhat should I put above dining room buffet
Comments (5)I would not do a symmetrical arrangement as you have in your image - instead, I'd work with the slant of the ceiling. Place a tall lamp on the left, a piece of art on the wall to the middle/right side of the buffet (slightly lower than the lamp), and then place a plant or something in front of the art on the right side. It should form symmetry with the ceiling, not the buffet....See MoreAm I crazy to put dining room table against one side of the room?
Comments (12)Have you considered putting the table against the window the long way (see sketch in blue). There would be 40" of walk space if the hearth is 18" into the room. An indoor/outdoor is a great option that will anchor the table, add color as well as be the base for the room. I would also install either a long rod with stationary window panels on either side or short rods on either side of the window. The short rods would also have stationary panels. This will visually complete the windows. I would put an accent chair in the corner on the fireplace wall by the entry with an art piece above. A built-in bookshelf cabinet could be installed to the right of the firelace. Add a focal piece above the fireplace and you're all set!...See MoreAwkward Corner Fireplace Living Room/Dining Combo
Comments (8)Beverly's spot on. Get an appropriate sized rug to define you space--use ALL the space. Everything crammed up on the fireplace isn't working. I will never understand a TV in a room where no seating orientates towards watching it. There's confusion and dishonesty in those configurations. The drapes, matching the walls hung waaay too high...they are adding nothing to your space. Those divided light windows with no casings call for a different sort of window treatment, perhaps roman blinds....See MoreUser
