We lost our grand dog this week

Our daughter's family had Cody since he was 6. He was a huge blonde Labrador retriever mix, maybe 125 pounds before he got sick. He was nearing 15 and had lost his appetite, at first they thought it was the new Rachel Ray food that they were trying out, but then he wouldn't eat his old type of kibble either. The vet found a tumor in his abdomen, inoperable because the anesthesia would have been too risky given his age. Once the light went from his eyes and he could no longer walk around easily, they had to make the difficult decision to have him euthanized. They made his last day the best that they could. They took him to the park for a swim and he even caught the frisbee once, my son in law had to pick him up to put him back into the van. He ate the biggest bacon cheeseburger that they could find and then they went to the vet. Our daughter stayed with him while her husband waited with the kids in the waiting room.
The kids are pretty upset and grieving as we all are. We'll really miss Cody, he was a great dog. May he rest in peace and be out of pain now.

Comments (7)It was definitely sticks. And, this morning our "Mom" returned. At least I'm convinced it's our original "Mom" as she looks identical. I'll know better when I can get some good pictures and if I can identify her. I'm pretty sure you are right as we've seen the babies bathing in the bird bath having a blast so they are still around! I was so excited to see her. And, I know we they don't have emotions, but do we really know for sure?!? :) We'll check on the other house and remove the sticks again. We've got lots of bird books and are pretty sure it is a House Wren. Plus my husband knows just about every bird, plant, tree, bug, etc. on the planet -- and probably off as well. Comments (7)Hi, "It's me again, Margaret" we love Ray Stevens espically the above quote. What I was trying to say in my long ramble, yesterday, is it normal to not seem to feel anything? I don't feel numb, but it's like I'm not grieving at all. Just that she was someone I knew casually. That sounds so cold and unfeeling, but I can't seem to accept that she's dead. Just that she's out of reach of the phone. I've asked my DD-I-L to send me a copy of her death certificate. Do you think that will make it more real? I know I should be feeling something but I don't. For me, I feel a little better knowing that every day here brings me a little closer to the day I will be with my beloved Momma again. Your words above brought to mind a short poem I came across, well before my Momma passed away, and for some strange reason, I kept it. We lost my brother to murder a little over two years before my Momma passed so it just seemed to fit my particular situation. I felt better knowing that one day my family WILL be united again :) My family chain is broken, things will never be the same. But as God call us one by one, my chain will link again. Comments (19)So sorry you lost your home. Since you have lemons, make lemonade from the situation. Sorry, that sounds bad, but there is nothing like a fresh start. You're still young at 47 but if you expect this to be your forever home and not plan to retire to a warmer area of the country, you'll need to keep certain things in mind. We don't know where you live or what your life is like, but I can't imagine that a home larger than 3 bedrooms and 3 baths is needed. A 2,000 to 2,500 sq. ft. home should be more than enough. Property taxes never go down nor insurance, so are you in a special area in the country where a 3,000 sq.ft has minimal property taxes and insurance? My sister lives in an up and desirable area of the country and has a 1,500 sq. ft. home and her taxes are more than $6k per year! Unless there is something special about that lot, I agree that moving into a brand new home somewhere else might be far less stressful. You'll likely want a first floor master and maybe a first floor guest room if you think an aged parent might be in your future. Down here in Florida, two story homes often have a closet on the first floor that matches the location of a closet on the second floor to allow for a future electric lift.
