Comments (2)As for room arrangement, where is the entrance door? If it is across the room from the window, feng shui would say that the energy in the room will flow in through the door and out through the window, and your bed is right in the middle of it, so not restful. I might rotate the bed 90 degrees to the right or move to where the desk is. Also, I would not have my work desk across from my bed so that it was the last thing I saw at night and the first thing I saw in the morning. I would keep all my office things in one area/nook in the room and put the dresser or bookshelves or something across from the bed that I could hang a large, pleasant view picture across from the bed, or a mirror. Or move my bed so that when I woke up I was facing the window. I have found that it really helps a bedroom NOT to mix functions throughout the room, particularly work functions. Then your work ends up cluttered around the bedroom and is not restful. If you have to have an office in the bedroom, separate that area from the sleeping area. Ideally you would create a dressing area too, with a mirror and all your clothing storage, but that might not be possible in this small space. I would move the dresser next to the clothes closet and hang a gorgeous mirror above it. You can sometimes find great ones on Craigslist or thrift shops for less than in a store, although home goods are rather cheap in the discount stores nowdays, for something like a mirror. But you could get one with an awesome frame if you scrounged around....See MoreA big window in master bedroom closet and none in the master bedroom
Comments (4)Guessing the window is there for curb appeal on the front façade. Have you drawn a mock up to see what that would look like? Sky light /solar tubes add TONS of natural light!! Gotta wonder who the architect was and if it would be cheaper to move the closet so the window is part of the room, than mess with outside walls!!...See MoreBedroom Reno - Make Bathroom Larger and Create a Walk-in Closet

I’m a person that likes a little more intimate bedroom (and hotel room) spaces, so I don’t see anything wrong with an 11 x 14 space plus reading alcove, etc.— but this would be on smaller side of an en suite which might be a resale consideration. I’m guessing your bath is a standard 5’ x 8’? My proposal was to flip that on its axis, keeping a 5x8 but orienting it (and walk-in) vertically on the plan, which theoretically would eat up 3 feet from existing bedroom. The ‘vestibule’ entry on my quick sketch was to give the room some more privacy from a public area, but it could allow you to also carve out a foyer closet there if desired (not shown on my sketch). But to your point, this is not necessary to achieve what you’re going for and potentially more $$ than it’s worth (but if crown molding is your only concern, that could likely be easily bypassed by having an arched doorway leading into ‘vestibule’ area). FWIW- I’m a serial home renovator with a number of projects done for myself, friends and family— but I’m not a ‘pro’. Your project doesn’t seem overly complicated but you’ll want a knowledgeable contractor with some in-house design chops....See Moreupstairs renovation: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, hall closet
Comments (421)@btydrvn at least my "chic-up truck" is still with me! Came in handy yesterday working on the tailgate most of the day in the warm sunshine. It's blessedly lower to the ground than my work trucks. I'm 5'3". Who knows, maybe I will love the new vehicle. Hubby and I think it will be the upscale version of a hybrid Toyota RAV4. I read it has some giddy up off the post... always liked that about my V6 Accord. A Tesla owner was obviously feeling frisky at a traffic light the other day, and I empathized. Part of this is that I am grieving that part of my life too. The kids were just starting high school. We'd just moved here to this wonderful climate and more trees than they'd ever seen. I was finally getting a "real" job, delayed by staying home while the kids were little (no regrets and no judgements of how anyone else manages). That car saw them through high school, college, those tumultuous years, even an overnight race to my boy's side after he was t-boned by a drunk driver who blew a red light. He's fine and we've been through much worse in the Marines. It even hauled my grandgirls around. That whirlwind part of my life... it was beautiful... not pretending it was perfect though. And I need to remember that these next 25 years can be just as good. After one last thing on my bucket list, I can retire like dear hubby just did. I can get more involved with our local grandgirls just like he is, and travel more to see our distant grandkids. And after we finish renovating the upstairs, we can have company stay with us! The grandgirls can have sleepovers! As I declutter for that renovation, I need to remember I am preparing for the next stage, and to make sure I enjoy every bit of it that I can. And the new "car" will be part of it, right? And so will the "new" house. I can be as happy about my new car as I am about my new house, right? Right? @ilikefriday @Red Ryder @Lynn Lou ?...See MoreAnnKH
