Its absolutely fine to go with a different door style. A real colonial/early american 19th c. house often has different doorstyles throughout anyway, ranked on whether the room was "public" or "private", first floor or upper floors, or even by importance in the same room.

McCraney's door has been my favorite for all my adult life, and a happy memory from my childhood, and is my own choice. That said, and since this group doesn't include any favorites you don't have, I'd start by avoiding it, Shaker, and any other that's been very done for the past 15 years or so. Have you seen txgypsygirl's post with pix of her kitchen? It shows how lovely and rich looking a simple slab door can be if attention is paid to using handsome wood for it. Lots of turnings and details, not to mention paint, are needed to dress up a lot of the wood being used, but pretty wood doesn't need them.

Sorry, Patricia, the crank pasta machines stay. The penninsula stays, also. There is not enough room for an island or wall ovens. The sink is at the only outside wall and it will say at the window with a view of a creek. An unfinished attic is above the stove. We are both in the kitchen prepping, cooking, and cleaning up at the same time - not one prepping then one cooking. We need more space at the stove and primary sink. This design gives us each a contained workspace without crossing each other's path constantly. . . and takes us out of the walkway. Walking through the living room provides access to the rest of the house for anyone who wants to avoid the kitchen. We view the refrigerator as the appliance that we spend the least amount of time in front of. It's close enough to the stove and the penninsula, and acts as a landing spot for both prep and cleanup. Changing the doorway also brings the kitchen closer to the deck. The only real inconvenience I see is at the doorway when the dishwasher is open. Cabinet style was a secondary consideration. Our experience with a number of purely kitchen designers is that they design great features but won't be using the kitchen with another cook once their work is done. We want and need to be able to function in our kitchen. My question involved how well inset cabinets at the penninsula would blend with full overlay slab cabinet doors. So, here are photos of the current space and preliminary measurements for the redesign. There doorway at the left will be 30" and the fridge will be about 6" to the right.

Thank you all for the amazing feedback and insight!! @ulisdone I never thought twice about the exhaust hood! I will start my research! @decoenthusiaste most definitely drawers! I remolded my kitchen in my current house a long time ago and drawers are my best friend! @Pamela Jackson your perspective is right on point!! Working in the tile/countertop environment I was in gave me great insight into what was on trend and how quickly it can go south! As I've continued to take my trips around the sun, my tastes have evolved for lack of a better word LOL. I found myself drawn to simpler and less busy with still keeping a splash of "Lisa" in there. The cabinets in my current kitchen are still beautiful. all wood, recessed raised panel, glazed etc.. However now I want clean and simple.. no fuss no muss. The busier things are the less I like them which is different from how I was 10 years ago! @jemimabean thank you thank you for the info on the refrigerator. This is not something that would make us happy! I will definitely do my research on that and take some measurements!! Lastly @Jennifer K I totally agree with you about having to be happy with my choice. When I would help customers make their tile selections I had to remind myself that they were the ones who had to walk in that bathroom every day not me. I was only there to guide them and make sure they knew their options. One lady wanted everything blue. Wall tile, accent, floor tile ...everything blue. I did my best to work around her limitations and even though it may have looked like cookie monster threw up in there, she was thrilled to pieces. I am doing a lot of homework on our choices for this house. I love the positive feedback and ideas I get from most of the people on here which definitely helps open my eyes to what I may not have realized. I appreciate all the helpfulness I can get :)
