Might I suggest you add a solid glass storm window rather than hoping the window treatment would block the cold? Would not want a glob of bunched up shade on a kitchen window to collect mist from fried foods -- but to each their own. An old fashion roll up shade would be better for the kitchen. Consider another way of weatherizing your window during winter until you can add a storm window or change out the window itself for a window rated for cold. If you choose the swag to hide the tacks or staples, you might be able to keep the natural light while blocking the cold using a plastic sheeting method to create a "dead air" space between the window glass and clear plastic. I can always pull out the kitchen tongs for the few times I need to operate it lol. @jennifer hogan, film is an option to consider. @beverlyfladesigner, believe me, that discussion’s been had. I agree with you, but I’m just so glad to get all that stuff off my kitchen island, I’ll basically let him have this in whatever position he wants!:) FYI, it took seven years to get it out of the kitchen!!!! @sammy, that’s a good idea, but I like clean light into the room. @smcf03, I hadn’t thought about a remote, I’ll check that out. Post some pictures of the room. The curtains can be different styles in a room but not mixed solid and prints. You could do panels on the windows and roman shades on the french doors

had another thought - your window does have separate pieces so there wouldn’t be light gaps if you had 3 separate shades as the mullion separation piece would hide it. you’d have a narrower shade on each side & a wider one in middle. But, the 3 shades can be on one solid header piece mounted above window for that clean look & easier mounting. This is an option so you could raise / lower independently depending on sun control need As sun moves. There are cordless options too so no hanging cords to mess up view. That might work out better for you. Really Good move on your kitchen reconfiguration!
