Starting a veggie garden now in central florida

My garden is the disease pit of the world and also has a ton of insects i.e. green loopers, aphids, pickleworms, ect. For the next few weeks I am looking at highs in the mid 60s to 70s and lows in the 50s. Would now be an acceptable time to start a garden with tomatoes, peppers, ect? All the big box stores have them in already and I would love to get a jump on the season before they are nailed by every disease and bug out there.

That depends on the weather in your area. Feb can still see some cold or even frost. You can plant now and if the weather stays good be ahead of the bugs or wait until the last frost date for your area.

Thanks. My last frost date was 3 days ago so I guess I can wing it.

When getting tomato and pepper seedlings at the big box store make sure that you inspect them that are bug and disease free. After planting in an amended soil or pots be ready to protect them if we are going to get another cold spell.

Well I kinda feel smart now as we have had the mid 80s for a couple weeks. Of course I have already seen stink bugs and some of my leaves have already been hit by leaf miners. I think my chinese cabbage is in trouble and I am not sure it will close up in this heat but my beans and cucumbers germinated and are already about 6 inches high. Now that I said this you can bet something will come around to kill everything in my garden.
