My advice would be: show her a sample and see her reaction

I'd be allover this design if it would be for me as a little kid; I don't think it's too busy, especially if used sparingly, and sophisticated is good.

But kids are really imaginative and highly impressionable, and what fascinates one little child can frighten another.

Kids see animals and people even when they look on plain painted wall:) they'll see things in patterns as well.

They can get easily scared of what we consider funny -like clowns, or they can get scared of some dolls

Or they can be enchanted with what grown ups find more bothersome than fascinating-bugs and frogs and all sorts of creatures

So I'd see how your little girl likes it. Also gives her opportunity to get used to it-it won't be totally new to her, after she saw the sample.

Some kids do great with change, some need more time.

I love this wallpaper. Especially on half, like you said. Otherwise I could see it becoming too busy. Colors have some neutrality in them as well which makes furniture easy to work with. I think it looks timeless like you are going for and perfect for her to grow up in! Good luck.

Love the paper. I would consider painting the lower walls the same grey as the top and using color from the wallpaper for bedding, rug(s), drapery, etc.

From experience, I can tell you that the timeless idea sounds like a good one, however, when your daughter gets older she will most likely want a different color. We started out w/ a timeless Waverly wallpaper (white background & blue bows). As DD grew older, she wanted a pink room and several years after that "bumble bee" yellow. That yellow was awful, but we let her have it because that was her space. Of course, when we put the house on the market last year, we had to paint the room- LOL.

No matter what you choose,ime she will want changes down the road. Does she like this wallpaper? Is it the kind that removes easily,like peel and stick easy?

I'd keep the walls simple, go for a more sophisticated look in 15 years when she is leaves for Harvard. Or Yale. More then likely she will want to change her room more then a few times before then.

Your daughter's preferences WILL change -- be glad for that.

A better idea would be to keep the walls a neutral color, perhaps a pale gray, but hang a few plywood panels or even cork boards on the largest spaces on the walls. There is paint that can turn a smooth board into a chalk board. Lowes will cut a smooth "finished" 4'x8' into smaller sizes more easily hauled in the average car -- last time I asked it was free. (Would still sand it a final time before painting it.)

You could add boards to one or more panels for a shelf space.

Choosing a light with shelves for decorative items could double as storage for dolls or stuffed animals or other toys.

If you're on a budget, check with your local used stuff stores -- Habitat for Humanity Restore Store, charity and/or church sponsored thrift stores, Good Will, etc., and see if you can find inexpensive vertical storage items that can be decorated. Since the switch from analog to digital tvs sometimes you can find a good used wood (deep/analog) sized tv cabinet with drawers and doors that, by adding a shelf or two and a new plywood or wood board back panel (or just covering a few holes intended for cords). If there is a cabinet or bookcase in front of a wall that can be painted/repainted and/or decorated as needed, no fancy wall décor is needed. These can be great for toys or bedding. I saw one at a Habitat Restore Store rebuilt to be a little girls kitchen with plenty of storage space for everything needed for a tea party.

Do get the no-tilt hardware as needed to prevent tall items from turning over.

Do hang any heavy panels and/or boards with chains from eye hooks affixed to the top wall plate (the horizontal board atop the studs near the ceiling) so as to not damage the drywall. These panels could be easily redecorated and, if necessary, even replaced without nearly as much expense as a remodel of the entire room at a time when your daughter would probably prefer bedroom redecorating dollars might buy new bedding with her then current favorite colors.

As your daughter's taste changes, she'll thank you.

My kids were/are very opinionated and head strong, and their tastes was/is very different from mine. Since there are always non-negotiables in child raising (mainly safety, long term values/goals), the decor of their rooms and their clothes was something I tried not to fight about. My daughter at that age was into pink/purple, stars, glitz and sparkle, the more, the better and world's apart from my taste.

At this age you can decorate her room with your taste ... but expecting to never have to change the room as your daughter grows is unrealistic.

I find that wallpaper dark and depressing.

I am in the no such thing as "timeless" with growing children. Their brains are developing and as it changes so will their tastes. If you want something you like and will insist she lives with it--no matter what than sure it is very sophisticated. Not a child's space, however.

A 3 year old will want a different room by the time she hits 7 or 8 and so as to avoid the cost and effort of adding/removing wallpaper, I would just paint the room in her favorite color and add interest and personality with great accessories. I also find this wallpaper too large, dark and too grown up. If you are set on wallpaper, something more subtle and youthful would be easier to decorate around down the road and trust me, it will be sooner than later - as you also have to consider lots of wear and tear.

There is no such thing as a room for a 3 year old that neither you or she are going to want to change over the next 10-15 years, but the more stylized it is, the faster is is likely to change. I would keep it neutral, no wallpaper, and count on the fact that you will want to repaint and change some things at least once, probably twice. Possibly more. From a mom of 2 boys now in college and grad school. Been there.

I like the paper but it's a bit busy for me. I also have a three year old, so if yours is anything like mine, they don't need any extra stimulation. I'd find something soothing instead.

As wallpaper goes that IMO is not an attractive design and certainly not age appropriate. What are you going to place on top of it to break up the monotony?

No to the wallpaper and yes to stencils or stickers that can be changed out over time.
