Need Help picking cabinet color and design
Comments (3)The floor is pine, and I think I stain the floor with olympic brand honey oak stain with couple coat of minwax poly. The wood floor continue across the living room. The window trim has been sanded to a lighter color as you can see in th picture. I was going to order some unfinished rta cabinet like the barker cabinet, but I still need to pick a color stain. The other choice is to order the conestoga cabinet in nutmeg stain/hard maple. Well, I don't want my cabinet to resemble the floor color. I read somewhere white color is timeless, but I am a messy cook and my dog loves to rub up against anything. I am pretty sure I will put one wall and one base cabinet on either side of the stove, except the wall cabinet closer to th window will block some of the window wood trim. The island is going to be about 90" long. On the working side I am going to put a/36" sink base and dishwasher and two 15" cabinets. The other side is going to be an eating area, I am not sure if I want to do a raised countertop with 42" wall cabinets or keep the whole island flat across with base cabinet. The two tier setup with hide the sink and dirty dishes....See MoreHelp! Picking kitchen cabinet colors, need help with off-white/creams
Comments (14)Aw man, thanks for the comments guys! After being in this house with small kids for eight years, the cabinets are showing wear and there is quite a bit of water damage on many of them and some are broken (didn’t show you that photo!). So...that was where my head was at with going ahead and painting the cabinets. They are already priming today so this is a done deal! In my area, painting cabs is still a big thing (we might steer behind the times a little) and a big thing people look for in resale (we could be moving in a couple years). Honestly, it might not be trendy but I still love my granite! It hides stuff so well and never looks dirty. And I never even notice my backsplash and I just don’t care that much about it. It’s hard for me to warrant changing something just for cosmetic reasons (counter and backsplash) versus need (cabs). We got an amazing deal on the painting so I feel good about it. I’m going full steam with Antique White. After looking at it forever and being in complete decision making paralysis, that’s what I’m going with! I’m going with brass/gold knobs to add a little bit of funky and I have lots of Anthropologie-esque and plants to add character. I have a very open floor plan with my living room right there in all it’s colorful glory, so I’m thinking the lighter will look nice. I’ll be happy to post a pic when I’m done. Thanks for listening!!...See MoreNeed help picking Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color
Comments (27)Laurie, I too love your inspiration picture. No one I know can afford to renovate their home every 10 years and keep up with the latest trend. I have found the key is to pick out what I will be happy with in 10 years or 20 years or longer and getting what makes me happy. I wish picking the perfect cabinet color was as simple as saying BM Simply White or SW White Duck, but to get just the right white is a bit trickier than that. If you have a sample of your back splash I would take it to the BM store or the SW store and look at all of their whites next to the back splash. Pick out a bunch that are close to the lighter colors in your back splash. Then go outside in the sun and look at them again - eliminate the ones that are not quite right. Sunlight will give you the truest vision of the color. Whites are quite funny and can appear too blue or too green or too yellow or pink next to other colors. If you will be using a satin or gloss finish the cabinets may appear lighter than you expect because light will reflect more from shinier finishes. Keep this in mind when selecting the color samples. Get a pint of your final selection and paint another sample before committing to the color for all the cabinets. After you find 6 ish good candidates order a few samples from https://samplize.com/ or buy a few sample cans and make your own samples. I like using 140 lb water color paper for samples from Michael's. Heavy enough not to curl or warp. Get a pint of your final selection and paint another sample in the same gloss you will be using for the cabinets before committing to the color for all the cabinets. You can always use this paint as a first coat if you decide that it is too light or just a bit off....See MoreHelp! We need help picking a kitchen paint color.
Comments (11)The lighter one is better than the other one. But they both have green undertones. Look for something a little more blue...See MoreSunnie Kim
