It is a brown labrador antique..can't afford to change that either. FYI

Very nice! I agree with what cali said, choose the lightest color from your backsplash. Buy some likely colors in those printed paint color samples -- the big ones and hang them over your doors in various locations in your kitchen and see how your lighting works with them.

Your backsplash is fine but it's not the most popular right now around Houzz so expect some comments.

I wouldn't let the wall color influence your decision because that's the easiest to change.

Your cabinets are great! They're already a nice light and bright natural wood. That’s the best of all worlds! I wouldn’t go to the big expense of having them painted professionally. I’d spend that 5-7K on new counters and a new splash. Maybe a little lighting.

I bought some Benjamin Moore Dove White and BM White Down and I just can't figure it out. I was hoping someone would say this is the exact color you need....Guess that isn't going to happen! I agonized for hours as to what color to paint my expensive kitchen cabinets. I finally picked cottage white from Dunn Edwards and am very happy with it. It looks very much like the photo you've provided. It has a vintage look to it, though, which might not work well with your backsplash.

I’m seeing a more modern light beige color with a pinch of gray working nicely. Tomorrow I’ll get out my paint decks and have a look.

I didn't realize from your question that you already had these finishes. Honestly, I would save all the money from refacing your cabinets and just change the backsplash to a warm white color. The countertops and cabinets work well together, and a new back splash would be significantly less expensive but give you a totally updated and different look. If you are set on paint, some of the options above could work, but you have to see the paint samples in your own light to know whether they will work. If you're not sure, paint larger samples on poster board and tape them up to see the larger sample from a distance and in different parts of the room. Also make sure whatever color you choose coordinates with your flooring.

Besides, dated vs not dated is NEVER the question to ask. Never, ever.

The question to ask is - does it look good, does it contribute to a cohesive whole, does it fit the style of the house.

The color of the cabs in your inspiration pic looks like a cream with a tiny teench of brown and gold mixed in. Which would be perfect with your backsplash and counter.

Why did you decide to reface the cabinets rather than do something else to update your kitchen?

Budget aside, do you like the current backsplash? If you do, absolutely work around it. If not, just removing it and painting would be an option, since you also have a low granite backsplash, it appears.

I think the white duck color would be nice. something that leans on the grayish side of white and not the yellowish whites. bring home samples. Other options:

Also make sure your lighting is in the natural daylight range. change your bulbs to a 4000K if you can. (less yellow)

honestly, if you could remove that bar tile, it would really make a difference. you already have the 4" granite backsplash piece. just remove the tile and paint the wall above it. (for sure remove the tile on the side wall off to the right)

carefully pry it off. if you happen to gouge the drywall behind, not a big deal. just skim coat it w/joint compound. It's not that expensive to do yourself.

Laurie, I too love your inspiration picture.

No one I know can afford to renovate their home every 10 years and keep up with the latest trend. I have found the key is to pick out what I will be happy with in 10 years or 20 years or longer and getting what makes me happy.

I wish picking the perfect cabinet color was as simple as saying BM Simply White or SW White Duck, but to get just the right white is a bit trickier than that.

If you have a sample of your back splash I would take it to the BM store or the SW store and look at all of their whites next to the back splash. Pick out a bunch that are close to the lighter colors in your back splash. Then go outside in the sun and look at them again - eliminate the ones that are not quite right. Sunlight will give you the truest vision of the color.

Whites are quite funny and can appear too blue or too green or too yellow or pink next to other colors. If you will be using a satin or gloss finish the cabinets may appear lighter than you expect because light will reflect more from shinier finishes. Keep this in mind when selecting the color samples. Get a pint of your final selection and paint another sample before committing to the color for all the cabinets.

After you find 6 ish good candidates order a few samples from https://samplize.com/ or buy a few sample cans and make your own samples. I like using 140 lb water color paper for samples from Michael's. Heavy enough not to curl or warp.

Get a pint of your final selection and paint another sample in the same gloss you will be using for the cabinets before committing to the color for all the cabinets. You can always use this paint as a first coat if you decide that it is too light or just a bit off.

I ended up going with SW Dover White and we are very happy with the results.
