Going to paint store today...Aura or Regal?
Comments (6)My DH and I are not the best of painters, nor do we paint/re-paint very often, and we painted with Aura without problems. We painted our (small) guest bathroom by ourselves, first time ever using Aura, and it came out great. We cut-in all around the room first, as directed, and the paint was dry, and ready to be rolled by the time we finished cutting-in. Since it dries quickly, it's important to check over small-ish sections at a time, to catch and roll out any drips before they dry. That's about it as far as "being careful." It's advised to roll the paint on, and leave it (not to roll over the paint once it starts to set-up), but you do have some time to roll over the area (e.g. in different directions) to ensure good coverage without the paint on the wall mucking up. I wouldn't let it really start to dry and then futz with it though. At that point you're better off getting it with the second coat. Use a good quality/thickness roller cover, and make sure you use the same roller (type) for any future touch-ups, as it's the texture change you'd notice from the touch-up, not the paint itself (at leaast, in our experience). FWIW, we used the Aura Matte finish in that bathroom (they've since come out with a bathroom version--better for humid environments), in our "office," and throughout our upstairs (those were painted by a contractor friend--too large a job for us to tackle at the time). The finish/sheen looks gorgeous and it scrubs beautifully--really. I've scrubbed the walls along our staircase and in the hallway a number of times (white walls and two klutzes--bad combo!), and you'd never know where I've scrubbed. We used the Satin finish for the base molding (Aura doesn't come in Pearl finish), and it scrubs well also. HTH!...See MoreStores going out of business
Comments (13)Did you all see on the news about how the "Liquidation sales", really work? It looks as though the 50%- 75% etc, are the Linens and things prices. When the store turns the liquidation process over to the liquidators, they then are going by the liqidators prices, which are much higher. So, 50% off of a price, should say, which price they started at, but they don't. New price tags were stuck over old price tags. The new prices were way over the orignal, that he store owners used. I won't waste my time trying to go through things, only to pay possibly more on "sale" than it was to begin with! Buyer beware, I guess....See MoreYou're a time traveler--would you go to the past or the future?
Comments (32)I would not want to go back and meet my ancestors, as I think that a lot of them were mean and cruel, at least from what I know about them. My father was bad enough, and he learned his cruel behavior from his male ancestors. His great-grandfather did free his slaves, however, and paid them wages instead of making them work for free. I never met my paternal grandfather, but my cousins told me that he was cruel, and some of my male cousins on that side of the family were also cruel. It seems that mainly the men were bad, but not all of them. If you go to the future by only a few years, or up to 100 years, things might be bleak, but if you go to the future 1000 years from now, things might have worked themselves out. I would want to travel to a time in the future when there are no more fundamentalist religions and no more religious conflicts or wars. I don't know how long it will take humans to learn to live peacefully, since wars have been prevalent as long as civilization has existed. I would like to go to a time in the future when greed would be a thing of the past....See MoreDo you ever go to dollar stores?
Comments (58)Jinx, love the color scheme and your eclectic style! it’s not easy to achieve such a great result when you are working around two large elements (floor and lighting) not of your choosing. Well done! We also have a small sitting room at the front of the house as you come in and it’s my favorite reading spot, too. With respect to dollar stores: I took my kids there when they were in elementary school and gave them a budget for Christmas gifts for their friends. The gifts and wrap and tape and tags all came from the Dollar Tree (i think it was called) near us. They loved shopping for their pals and the presents were always very well received by their friends and their moms. The most popular gift one year was a decorative pen or pencil and a receipt pad for playing restaurant (to write down orders). The accessibility of price and variety made it a great place for them to test drive the whole shopping experience. Today, two out of our three kids are smart shoppers. The third just doesnt buy anything, he has the first penny that went into his piggy bank 🐷 I don’t shop at dollar stores except maybe once a year to replenish gift bags and tissue paper. I don’t avoid them but my regular buying habits just don’t include them....See MoreUser
