Bill V, Mongo - HELP! Tiling around outside corners?
Comments (26)Blondelle, it's the edge meeting at right angles. I've got a few of those - a couple are on half-tiled walls, so I've got to go around the corner *and* finish off nicely on the top edge (and top corner). Then there are a couple of corners that also transition from half-height to full-height in the tub/shower. The "cuarto de cana" (quarter round) and "angulo cuarto de cana" (quarter round corner - can't do the tildes!) pieces, along with some bullnose, would solve the problem for me, but I'm not sure I can get those pieces for my preferred tile (and possibly not even for my less-preferred tile) in time for work to start on 9/29. Bill, I understand how to use bullnose to finish off one side of a corner edge and have the other side butt into it... but how do I finish off the top of the corner when it's a half-tiled wall? Do I just miter the bullnose strips along the top? Can I miter the (possibly glass) border tile beneath the bullnose, and then just use the vertical bullnose/butt technique down the rest of the side? (Hope that made sense... I'm just learning this stuff!)...See MoreWall tile in a room with out of level floor
Comments (6)Another thought -- do the sliver, but using black tile. That would tie it in to the basketweave on the floor, but also draw less attention to its size differential between the ends (black hides all!!). It would also seems less out of place because it would operate as an intentional divider, rather than an "oh we had to do that because ..."...See Morehalf bath side hustle- tile shortage? 2 wallpapers?
Comments (6)Ok, well if it is already a dark little room, are you sure you want to put that dark wallpaper in there? I'd be worried it will feel like a cave. Maybe you need to consider upgrading your lighting in that room. Of the vanity choices you show, my first choice would be the first one. Looks like Dark Oak and a Craftsman type style. That reads the most "farmhouse" to me...the other two are much more modern and the middle one reads very mid century modern to me. The little I've seen of the decor in the washroom doesn't make me think MCM would match. Would it be a LOT of work to get rid of the wallpaper? I think if you are going with the darker coloured vanity and light floors, I'd find a paint colour that works with the flooring colour a bit more than the blue does. Maybe something like BM Seapearl (below). Or maybe you put the colour below the trim piece and white walls above if you are going to have white toilet and sink. I do like the artwork you've got on the walls - very farm like and lovely. A very nice touch....See MoreMaster bath wall tile and sliver wall tile
Comments (14)@Mike Blasko Thanks for all of this. Do you think I need to have them redo this? This is my first and last remodel. I've just had such a horrible experience of feeling like I can trust the experts to do what is best, while we end up having not to mention structural damage prior to this because a plumber cut through our engineered floor and roof trusses. At this point, I have to pick my battles but no, none of this makes me happy. It feels off but I don't know how to say what is off about it and since I don't know what I don't know, I am having to learn this the hard way from experts who can point out how to do this appropriately. 1) Full tile off bath floor instead of the shower floor to eliminate small cut at wall to floor. This would have made the cut at ceiling approx. 4"-5" 2) Easiest solution - Raise the shower floor to meet ceiling with full tile at the highest point. This would have provided a slightly larger cut at the floor also. - Can you explain a bit more about what this means? 3) Do the wall tile joints line up with the bath floor joints? Could you show me where you mean? My wall tiles are vertical, and my floor tiles are horizontal lengthwise... the grouts are at the half point mark. 4) The cut at the ceiling won't be as noticeable once grouted. How that cut is driving you nuts and not the 1/2" sliver on the floor outside the curb I don't quite understand. The 1/2 in sliver is also driving me nuts, I spoke to my contractor about it but again bc I don't know what can be done, I didn't ask him to fix it. It drove me nuts, and my only solution is a bath mat in front of my shower....See MoreRelated Professionals
