Dead lawn, grass seed won't take
Comments (5)Did you have any weed & feed or pre-emergent herbicide products put on the lawn prior to your attempted seeding? Did you seed with KGB (Kentucky Blue Grass)? If yes to the former the grass will not grow (the herbicide is doing its job of preventing germination). if yes to the latter it may just about to sprout (KGB has a very long period between seeding and visible grass). Other than that I have no idea. Even on poor soil and not great watering practices you should be able to see a couple blades coming up. I don't really like the idea of mixing soil + seed before spreading for small areas since you will get different depths of seeding (too deep and it won't grow, too shallow and you run the risk of drying out if/when you miss a watering). Ideally you want the grass seed to be very close to the surface but still covered for water retention. I seed and then lightly topdress by hand with...See MoreWhat Is The Darkest Green Grass Seed Available?
Comments (9)If your grass is a lighter shade of green you need to amend the soil. Apply Pelletized Lime, and a good hefty application of milorganite. Follow up with some Scotts Turf Builder Starter and good deep watering for several days. Water early in the morning, and during hotter days water again mid day. Each time you water make sure you water enough so the soil becomes moist DEEPLY. Make sure your mower blade is very sharp and cut at the end of the day when the worst of the sun has passed. Set your mower blade high to leave some length to your lawn, don't cut it very short. Taller grass keeps the soil from drying out, and gives the grass more of a chance to be touched by the sun. The green color is caused by the presence of a compound called "chlorophyll," which the plant produces to do photosynthesis, which is how plants get energy from sunlight....See MoreEveryone looking to purchase cool season grass seed
Comments (3)I expect Galaxy is darker because Prosperity is considerably darker than Bedazzled. Above is a picture of Turf Toes' Magnificent 3 lawn. I'll ask John at Rose Agriseed if he has a picture of Galaxy. I really don't think Seedland's pic nearly does it justice....See More7 grass seed varieties compared over a year
Comments (11)Wow, I wasn't expecting insults, ridicule and vaguely anti-semitic complaining when I posted this (I mean you, Gary). And Haslip, thanks for letting me know you're a better gardener and have a lawn 20 times the size of mine. You probably drive a better car, too, want to put that in a post? Lighten up, guys, I just lost interest after the fall and didn't water it in the summer. Thank you to those people who replied and weren't jerks. reelfanatic: I'll probably take a thatch rake, reseed the rows with my leftover seed from last year. Or, maybe I'll just see how the grass recovers on its own with some water and the cooler weather....See MoreEmbothrium
