A curiosity question about Junk mail
Comments (6)RC, I'm not more concerned about Magic Jack than the others, I mentioned those because there were just so many of them. I have Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Spyware Blaster, and update and run them about every two weeks. I just don't know what else to do to stop all this Spam, and find it odd that some have those messages on them. Sue...See MoreJunk Mail
Comments (14)one of the worst problems is not using the blind carbon copy feature when forwarding emails. And unfortunately the ones that will do that are your trusted friends and family! I never forward an email that shows others email addresses it is just very very bad behavior and it shows no regard for the people whose addresses are being spread all over the net. When I have people do that to me I politely ask them not to include my email address in those emails if they can not use the BCC feature. I in turn will not use theirs in that fashion either. I usually also include a link like these. Sins of The Internet: Not Using Bcc BCC for Privacy! use BCC from now on some people do not know how to use it in OE this is a good link to send to them Using Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) in Outlook Express If you have not been using BCC please do yourself and everyone else a HUGE favor and start using it now. Comments (10)We get VERY little junk mail. I signed up to be on the Direct Mail Association's Do Not Mail list years ago. Here's what to do: 1) Save the labels off your junk mail. If you get a lot of junk mail, you should have quite a stack. I also save any labels for previous owners that come my way. 2) Once you've got a bunch, write a letter to: Mail Preference Service Direct Marketing Association PO Box 643 Carmel, NY 10512 Dear Mail Preference Association, Please remove the following names from direct mail lists: "Put the addresses from your junk mail labels here. If you look at them closely, there will be variations on your address. Include each variation, e.g. Firstname Lastname, Mrs. Lastname, Ms. Firstname Lastname, F. Lastname... you get the idea> Sincerely, Firstname Lastname 3) Save the letter on your computer 4) Print it out, sign it, and mail it. 5) Repeat as necessary... your junk mail won't cease immediately, but within six months you should notice a dramatic dropoff. When you first get started, you'll be doing this every few months, but now I drop a letter into the mail every year or so with the addresses from the FEW pieces of junk mail we get....See MoreLOL junk mail
Comments (17)*groan* ;) Well, at least I'm not a "Jack" ---------------------- Although I do wonder about some mail items I have been getting for the past 8 month, or so. Not often, but it is curious. The address is ours, but the names are not--and they are not of anyone that has ever lived at this address. Sometimes they are names of neighbors down the street (although I don't personally know them), or from other streets in our neighborhood. Thought maybe they just didn't want to give out their real address and gave fake numbers and used street names that were familiar. But it is not always the usual junk mail--they are service coupons from car dealerships, the type sent to recent customers. The last one was Rx discount cards, that have to be requested. Why request Rx cards and send them to an address that is not your own? Weird....See MoreDLM2000-GW
