Need help choosing a new color for my kitchen (pics)
Comments (51)msrose - The picture came after the paint. I was wandering around JoAnn Fabric and decided to take a quick look down the art aisle "just in case" there was something that would look great in my new kitchen. I saw this and thought it was perfect! lyban - it's SW Sierra Redwood. And you are absolutely right, cheery and warm is how it makes me feel! pbrisjar - les917 and jejvtr suggested I try something in the rust/terracotta family, so I picked up a sample of the Sierra Redwood. I had actually almost decided on the Mountain Moss, but then I figured I should probably paint up a sample board of the Sierra Redwood considering I had already spent $5 for the paint :) Lo and behold, once I saw it on the sample board I thought, I LOVE this color! I still wasn't sure it would go in the kitchen, but my husband loved the color too, so we decided to paint one wall and see from there. I think the biggest problem I had before was 1 - I couldn't imagine what "went" with the tile and counterop so was really limiting myself and 2 - I was too focused on picking a color that "went" and not focused enough on finding a color that I LIKED. Actually liking the color made me bold enough to try it on the wall. As others have mentioned, I don't think most of us would look at it and say "oh yes that will look great" [well, except for Les and jejvtr ;)] It sort of takes a small leap of faith! Anyway, this has truly been a learning experience with color and I thank you all again!...See MoreRead Me If You're New To GW Kitchens! [Help keep on Page 1]
Comments (4)Buehl, please do! I was just trying to save something of use. I'd been checking the GW all night, turned my back for 15 minutes to watch the Health Care vote, and whammo! all the posts were gone. I kept refreshing, thinking, "This can't be!"...See MoreHelp me choose paint color for my new kitchen
Comments (17)Here are photos of the rest of the house. I'm not proud of the quality of the images, but they get the point across, I hope. The front patio and front door: The Living Room, panorama showing all four walls: The Dining Room, panorama showing 3 walls. Detail of the Dining Room paint. The lower walls is Zolotone with pink, two shades of grey, and off white. The trim is painted pink and off-white. The blind on the right is the fourth wall of the dining room, not visible in prior image - a built-in bookcase full of photography books, hidden behind a blind to protect them from the UV rays. (Yikes, nothing like a closeup image to show how dirty and worn things are.) The Dining Room is connected to the Kitchen through a single door, with very little visual connection. Bathroom, 5x7 feet: Office #1, 10x10 feet, aka Library, aka Green Room. Panorama showing all four walls makes it very distorted, but gives a sense of what the room is like. Office #2, also 10x10 feet. The only hall: The old Kitchen, looking along the north wall to the west wall. (I can't wait until this kitchen is GONE!) The old kitchen south wall, photo taken from the doorway to the dining room. We have removed the window to the left of the fridge, as the little table at that window was dead space that we never used....See MoreWhat color kitchen cabinets would you choose.
Comments (15)So, I like your choices on the floors / marble. The cabinet colors I don't care for. obviously the white is fine. forget B. With your warm yellow toned floors, it doesn't go together. C looks to be ok. D is a no. She's using maple? birch? maybe Alder? and it's the wrong gray tone. I think it looks great w/your marble, not so much w/the vinyl planks. let me show you some examples. This charcoal island is similar to your C choice. But the floors here are a cooler charcoal gray oak and here's a shot of the flooring you like next to it. Which do you think looks better? Your gray stained wood sample would be similar to this. the diff is, the wood grain wouldn't match up w/the LVP grain. I'm thinking the gray choices would also look nice w/the color flooring. I think your wood stained D option would look best w/this flooring, or something other wood tone. This gray tone is nice w/these slightly darker toned floors. I like the gold hardware w/it since it works w/the flooring. This gray is more of a Dovetail type of gray. BTW, have you thought about doing the island in the gray and the perimeter in the white? This floors isn't identical to yours, but it's similar in tone. The charcoal on this island would be very close to BM Kendall Charcoal or Chelsea gray. They are both charcoal w/yellow undertones, which is why they work well w/warmer wood tones. you said you wanted black. what about Wrought Iron? It's not quite black, but it is a darker charcoal color. and would look good w/your floors I actually used this color on my own island with real marble countertop you can see how it works well w/different warmer wood tones. walnut, french oak are the two main wood species in the room. Pictured here w/your flooring choice and the marble, I think it looks better than the other choices. Pair it w/some nice pendants some wood elements like the stools, and either the gold or the matte black hardware and I think it looks great! have you considering a slightly lighter looking LVP like this oak?...See Morespottedappy
