Installing pedestal sink basin on vanity counter top question
Comments (12)Thanks. I don't comment on fixtures often, but I do have to say I think the Memoirs is a lovely sink. The sink itself is large, the wide rim I absolutely love, and it has a good-sized bowl. It is indeed a nice sink. We had the same feelings over the backsplash. We went back and forth between painted wood or teak. I thought the teak backsplash would make the Memoirs pop more due to contrast, but my wife didn't want too much wood grain in the room. So we did painted wood which I topped with a teak cap. If my wife ever did want teak, I told her I'd simply glue a teak veneer over the painted wood. It's still painted. That run of cabinetry changed a couple of times during the design process. It was originally going to be a spacious 2-sink vanity. My wife really insisted on one sink! So that freed up space for the floor-to-ceiling storage closet on the left and what we call the "toilet pantry" on the right. The design has worked quite well for us over the years, I built it around 15 years ago. My daughter, who was 7 or 8 years old at the time, designed the profile for the toe kick cutouts. That was quite a bit of fun "working" with her. If you go in another direction, no worries. Comments (7)Trying to remind myself that no matter what I do with that inch of tile or where the cabinets line up ... it'll be much better than this with the fridge, stove and dishwasher all opening into the same space, not enough space to stand by sink and dw, the edge of the range on a walkway (I have kids!), etc. Not having room for more than one person in the kitchen is a huge issue too. The dw doesn't empty into the disposal leading to food debris back up ... as well as tons of other tiny issues I hope we can get taken care of. This was the kitchen prior to our move-in as well ... now it is in worse shape from me taking my frustrations out on it, sometimes with hammers or sharp objects. If this look ever goes 'retro' I'll laugh my behind off....See MoreBasement bar counter tops question.
Comments (13)The cabinet company will be making a base out of 2x4s and secure them to the floor via tapcons all over the place. Then, the cabinets will be placed on top of that base, and screwed to the bases. Then the Skin will be applied and secured to the base and to the cabinets along with toe kicks. on the back of the cabinets and on the base a 3/4 piece of MDF will join the cabinets to the bases. There will be three corbels on the island with the steel supports as well. The countertop will have a radial edge and start around 3 or 4" overhang on the sides and then go up to around 12, (most likely around 10") in the middle. I am worried about it tipping over but they swear that it won't go anywhere....See MoreKitchen Countertop Question
Comments (7)Unless this is a very long counter that exceeds the typical maximum slab length, or the fabricator is offering a significant discount to a client in exchange for using scrap pieces of material, this would never happen on my job site nor for any client I am managing a job for. And even if, that seam is unacceptably noticeable. Also, any fabricator that would install like this in my realm would be discounted off all credibility and never used again. This quality of install should be universally unacceptable. However, these are only my opinions....See Moreelisabethmeikle
