Left handed folks unite....
Comments (30)Sinistre? Well, en francais, we are gauche!! Indeed. In school I had no troubles, but I do remember in Sunday School, I apparently had someone try to change me over. No one did that to Madge's daughter, and they were quickly put 'right'. Speaking of which, we are the only ones in our 'right' minds, don't you know. I have left handed scissors which I love. I mouse right-handed, because I had such bad carpal tunnel in my left hand; even after it was fixed I still mouse right-handed, I guess till I get the right hand fixed. And don't start me on manual can-openers. I would starve if left to them. I had to leave my beloved B&D spacesaver in the move, and could not find another right away, so purchased a 'Gizmo'....Holy Cow. Just don't go there, OK. It will be in my first yard sale at a greatly reduced price, barely used. Thanks for letting me rant! Nancy....See MoreToo many types of scissors! CONFUSED
Comments (17)Here's the problem - to cut fabric cleanly, you need sharp scissors and much of what you work with is going to nick and dull the blades so you end up chewing your way through fabric. Fabric-cutting scissors should be reserved for fabric and thread! Get a pair of cheap utility scissors for the paper, felt and other stuff. The kind sold in grocery stores as "Kitchen scissors" are great utility scissorsm, and the Fiskars rip-offs from the office supply places are good too. craft foam: sharp long-bladed knife, or utility scissors beading wire, chenille stems, thin metal sheeting, magnet sheets: small wirecutters and a pair of "tin snips" for the metal and magnet sheets wool & acrylic felt, embroidery floss, crochet/knitting yarn, twine, greeting cards, chipboard, cardboard: Utility scissors cotton & cotton-poly fabric, fabric interfacing, batting, ribbon: Fabric scissors, although poly batting can dull them. I just 'lost' my paramedic style scissors to the man cave/garage. Tell him to get his own pair! Those things are invaluable for craft work. houseplants, bushes, trees, perennials & annuals: Real pruning shears, loppers and "flower snippers" (needle-nosed pruning shears). You will gunk up your scissors with plant sap if you use scissors....See Moreadvice needed - soft handled scissors

Comments (19)I've never had the bent handle sheers or serrated sheers -- was thinking about getting a pair and trying to decide which one. Sounds like the serrated are especially good for heavy fabrics and slippery. One place said satin -- knits make sense too. Looks like even the 5000 series have 5 star reviews so maybe that's a place to start. I don't sew that much and also have a rotary cutter that I use for some things. I did see the answer to whether you can sharpen serrated scissors. Kai responded to that on an Amazon listing question and said the straight blade can be sharpened by anyone who can sharpen regular scissors but if the serrated edge is damaged, it needs to be sharpened and then re-serrated and they can do that. But that could get time consuming and/or expensive too....See More- 8 years ago
