My husband and one son are both lefties. They do everything righthanded, including swinging a golf club and bat, except write. My sister is a true leftie and often has problems in a right-handed world.

My DH is left handed but that doesn't stop him from filching the regular ones. Yeah, and those wind up in forever scissorland. Wherever that is.

I am ambidextrous, I have one child who is like me and the rest are right handed. You would think that one hand would be more prominent but that isn't so. My son and I can sit next to each other and make a request that I eat with the other hand lol. He plays baseball with right and bowls with left.

I'm ambidextrous as well. I pitch the ball with my right hand, bat with my left hand and catch with my left hand. I eat with my left hand and write with my right hand. I bowl with my right hand. They tried to make me bowl with my left hand saying I was a southpaw but I couldn't do it so they let me pick up the ball and Bowl the way I wanted. :-).I'm all over the map.

I cut with leftie scissors with my left hand and I'm terrible at it! I can't cut with my right hand either. I can do calligraphy the fanciest type with my right hand writing but I can't cut a straight line. go figure! I've always wanted to do more sewing but it's just so frustrating for me how difficult it is to hold the scissors right to cut properly or have the strength or something?

I'm right handed but eat with my left. I use my right hand to cut things, meat, veggies, etc, but don' switch the fork to my right hand to eat.

I'm a leftie, hubby is a rightie, 2 kids are lefties and 2 are righties. Makes it easy when we go out to eat. No bumping elbows!

My sister is left handed and she has several pair of scissors for lefties. It's really funny to watch her try to cut with right handed scissors.

I'm mostly left-handed and use scissors with my left hand, but have never had any difficulty with right handed scissors. I don't think that I have ever used a pair of left handed scissors, shears, snips, or secateurs.

I do most other things with my right hand or ambidextrously.

DH's parents refused to let him use his left hand. This happened a lot back in the Dark Ages, when it was 'unseemly' to be left handed. As a result, his handwriting is illegible, even to him.

He still throws a ball with his left arm and kicks with his left leg. He was a decent golfer, hitting left, until they wouldn't let him play left. He uses his left hand to unscrew a jar.

Spiral notebooks are torture for lefties.

I am right handed, but due to a couple of accidents when I was less than five years old, I learned to use my left hand for most things. Some things I can do equally well with either hand....use scissors, for example. i use both my left and right sides when doing things like cleaning stalls. I will start with my right, switch to my left when I get tired. When I was about 3 years old...maybe less, I got a very bad third degree burn to my right hand, that required skin grafts. Then as it was healing, I was shot through the same hand with a .38 pistol....that my nephew found in a drawer in our tiny little house. Belonged to my brother who was home on leave from the army. He should have known better....there were 3 kids under the age of 5 in the house.

Geeeez, Marilyn. Both of those incidents must have been terrifying for your three year old self. They'd be terrifying to an adult so I can only imagine how traumatizing that must have been. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I'm a leftie who uses right handed scissors with my left hand. I grew up using rightie scissors and was an adult when hubby bought me a pair of leftie scissors as a stocking stuffer one year. By then I'd was so used to using rightie scissors that I was unable to learn to use the leftie one's. I'm not sure what happened to them.

Lefties learn to adapt to a right handed world, but I agree with Scott that three ring binders are a bear. Ladles with only one spout are also difficult to use.

When I was a kid, i rarely saw other left handed people, but now there seem to be quite a lot of them. I often wonder if that is because children are no longer forced to use their right hands. When I was a toddler and learning to use a spoon, my mom kept switching the spoon from my left to my right hand until one day I had a fit and threw the bowl of baby food across the room. She let me be after that.

Would I have been able to draw and paint had I been forced to become a rightie? That's a question that I will never have an answer to, but it's an interesting thought to ponder.

I am left handed. I use scissors with my right hand. I throw a ball with my right but throw a Frisbee with my left. I bowl & shoot right handed but everything else I do with my left.

And I hate note books & spiral bound note books. When ever I use a spiral bound notebook I put the spiral on the other side.

You can open your spiral notebooks from the back page and write on the "back" of each page. That way the spiral is opposite your hand, same as it is for those weirdos that write on the opposite side of the page with their opposite hand LOL. My grandmother was forced to change; even when she was in her 70s, it was difficult for her to write, and her handwriting was difficult to read. Many things that we don't think of it as being left-handed or right-handed are actually right-handed. Can openers come to mind! Since I learned to cut with right-handed scissors, I'm very awkward with left-handed scissors. Other than that, I'm a total Lefty.

With spiral notebooks, I just turn the book upside down to write on the back of the page. But I do avoid buying them. Still have a few left from when kids were in school.

Dawn, I don't recall being traumatized...but I am certain my parents were. My fingernails on my right hand melted and never regained a normal appearance. My mother said she was afraid no boy would ever want to date me because my hand looks so bad....but, actually, most people don't notice it unless they are around me a lot. I can use it, and it has always been this way...in my memory, so I am not self conscious about it. And, I never was a wall flower....a lot of boys wanted to date me. ;)

I’m a total lefty. I have never used a pair of left handed scissors. I guess I should buy a pair to see what I’ve been missing.

I'm a left-hand writer, but right handed with scissors, a hammer and many sports. I can bat left or right handed. I also use whichever hand is more convenient when eating. If I'm against the wall in a booth, I'll just use my other hand.
