ISO Backsplash & Granite Ideas for Beach Kitchen
Hi! We are redoing a part of this kitchen. We recently bought the house. It’s near the ocean so we don’t want anything too formal. The cabinet wood is guanacaste and will stay. The hardwood floors are the same. We want to replace the black granite counters and backsplash. Would like to brighten the room. I have spent far too long trying to decide what to buy. I don’t want to make an expensive mistake. The contractors are waiting. I can’t use the sample backsplash in the pic - too $$$. Ideas?

I drove myself crazy trying to decide between colorful and plain and trying to find a balance. I ended up using a dark grey/beige/white mosaic framed in dark grey behind the range with cream subway tiles (I have cream cabs with dark grey granite). I think of it like a blank canvas or a little black dress to accessorize with color to suit the seasons and my mood. I like your ideas of using a couple of glass front cabs with your dishes and colorful pendant lights - they would be easy to change if you wanted to! Comments (52)ToxDocAR - that's not your kitchen above, right? (At first I thought it was). Make a sample board of the new tile, which btw I don't read as dark at all. It's very easy! Take a scrap piece of wood (or even heavy cardboard). With double-sided sticky tape, apply your tiles. Then, mix and apply grout. Sponge clean, let dry a couple of days. Take pictures in place. Then, chip tiles off (I tap gently with a hammer and flat screwdriver) and repeat, with a different grout. You'll know, then, whether you like it or not. Comments (9)I don't know what your client has in mind completely. It might be worth asking the client for some inspiration pictures for what she has in mind. I think some glass mosaics might be overpowering for that granite. But there are some glass mosaics that might work as long as they are very plain. 6 years agoBeing near the ocean and with so much beautiful wood, that kitchen would look great capitalizing on a nature theme. Pebble backsplashes are casual and look great in the right setting. The blues and greens in this one would add color and pair nicely with a simple white or cream countertop.
