Your family has a good suggestion I think. What would they suggest instead? What makes you want another table?

I believe your dining table and chairs style is appropriate and complimentary for your more traditional dining room. Farmhouse style table is out of the question.

Look at new window treatments, chandelier, chair seats, uph. chairs or wall decor instead.

I agree -- if you want a Farmhouse table because of the length -- just put all your leaves in -- you'll get the same long table look. Then look for more chairs to fill around the table.

I think you have too much traditional mahogany in the room to just put a "farmhosue" table in and go for farmhouse style. IMO, it is tricky to mix styles -- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't

I was wanting to replace the table because of some deep gouges in the veneer.

If you are going to replace the table anyway how about refininhing it in a paint finish and trying that frst, the style will work and the paint will add contrast. Maybe even go with a bold color like a darker shade of your blue wall color, and add an eclectic sense in doing so! Re-upholster the chair seats also - Do it all yourself and get some real satisfaction!!

The table in Beverly's second pic is definitely farmhouse. It works beautifully!

You might be able to have the table top restored for less money than buying a new table.
