Worried about sudden frost after warm fall

Here in Arkansas, we had a very warm fall, which kept most deciduous plants thriving long past the time when, in previous years, they would have shed their leaves. Then a sudden cold spell hit, and the leaves are now withered due to frost. We normally see just stems at this stage. The sight of these withered leaves is a bit daunting. Will this harm the plant overall? I have tried to keep everything watered when possible.
