Your most regretful non-purchase
Comments (14)Actually, it's not a non-purchase but a give-it to a friend regret. Fifteen years ago, when I was single and had a house to myself, a friend at work took me to Kensington Orchids to show me the greenhouses full of blooming orchids. We both started buying orchids and I filled a table in the smallest bedroom in the house, which faced south. Then I got married and stopped buying orchids, but would tend to the ones I had, about 12 or so. I'd take the brassavola nodosa and other mounted orchids with us when I'd go up to my grandparent's house, and my Grandfather would ask how my "weeds" were doing. Soon kids came and the bedroom was needed, so I gave my orchids to my friend to add to his collection. My grandfather told my new wife I gave up my "weeds" for her, and he seemed to miss seeing them hanging over the radiator in his kitchen too. My friends plants got a virus or fungus some years later that wiped everything out. Now that I am back into growing orchids, bigger house and kids old enough to stay clear of "Dad's stuff" I wish I had that brassavola again. It would have been a good reminder of when I started out, having memories of my Grandfather laugh about it, and a momento of a grower that is no longer with us. Comments (66)I've enjoyed this thread so much. (Well, except for all those 'annoying' football comments. I mean really, let's get the over hyped Super Bowl out of the way so we can get on to the real sport...BASEBALL! Go Rangers! lol Auntjen, we are neighbors as I, too, live in the same county as Jerry World.) ahem...back to decorating. I'm a new real estate agent and one of my fascinations is seeing the inside of people's homes. I held an open house this weekend at a charming home. Talk about beautifully decorated! I so wish I could have taken photos just to show you guys the decor. (The RE photos don't show the decor like I'd like to show y'all.) After two hours of 'living' in the home, I was ready to go back to my more rumpled and comfortable home. lol I know the owners have 'staged' the home to be very, very nice looking and they are getting the right kinds of comments. I just know that for me and mine...we go for that 'creative' look. lol My goal, an ongoing, ever-ellusive goal, is to create a warm, inviting, and comfortable place to live that still delights my eye and artistic sense. That's possible, not perfect...and when it comes together, it is PERFECT. ;0)...See MoreWhat is your most versatile decorating accessory?
Comments (12)Hard to choose just one as there are so many decorative items I use and love but my various silver accessories are always in use. I've collected mostly silver plated holloware but a few sterling candle holders for years and have a lot. I use the small plates as coasters, the various trays for vignettes, the large trays for serving, and have even hung medium size trays on the wall in a grouping. Here are 3 items (pic taken to show my yard sale finds one day). I think each of these items was $5 proving that cost is not the important factor in beauty or versatility....See MoreBIG Southern Oregon Pine Trees Dying....recently purchased home
Comments (2)Your extension office is spot on. The holes are definitely from sapsuckers which open up the probability for Sequoia mouth. The tree is Shore pine (Pinus contorta) which is extremely susceptible to both. Being native trees, they do not want summer water. They are evolved to tolerate our summer drought. It's normal. I don't think sycamore will work in southern Oregon; it has totally different climate preferences. Look around. Oregon white oak (Quercus garryana) performs magnificently there and in time will become a huge majestic tree....See Morenatesg
