What an interesting subject! Here, rooms slowly have evolved to have their own color schemes, so most accessories look best when in certain room(s).

However, some things do come to mind. For example, we have a pair of metal candlesticks in the form of monkeys standing upright and wearing vaguely late Middle-Age(ish) clothing. They are of a dark metal, and the candles are natural beeswax, which is a dark yellow color. They are currently in a room with furniture in tobacco/dark chestnut, gold, dark red, and dark brown, and they'd work in some other rooms as is. If I were to replace with white candles, they'd work in yet other rooms as well.

Those sound like lovely items. I do not think I have any . . .I do not have many accessories to begin with (am starting to look). So, I would have to say my kids and cats. My husband looks good too. :)

I love shopping my house and move things around like that all the time. This storyteller statue from Jemez Pueblo (pronounced HAY-mez) gets moved around a lot. From my living room to the family room, to my foyer hutch, and when the mood hits me, I make her part of my table settings, as below. Here I've also used a small batik painting by NM artist Alice Valzez (love her work!). This one is of an Indian pueblo on a snowy night. I like using small pieces of art, including framed (greeting) cards, in my tablesettings.

In the biggest sense, my rugs, which range in origin (all "oriental" rugs, and in age from about 90 years old to 40 years old to newish. I lived in an apartment with a rollaway cot and mostly trash picked furniture but it still looked good because of the rugs.

Some things look good because of their sheer numbers: my 75? now, and counting danish modern candlesticks.

I think if the accessory is interesting, it's actual quality doesn't matter, I have things I picked up off the sidewalk next to some pricey things, and it all works.

All of my hand turned wooden bowls can be used in any room . Likewise i have a very large selection of Oriental rugs some very old to a few from the 80's. All of them work in any room in the house and I do move them when the mood hits. The art work on my walls with a few exceptions also can be hung in any room in the house. Those I do not move as frequently due to constraints on holes in the walls :) I am planning on using picture rail hangers in the near future for just that reason. I will then be able to move any of my art at will.

Hard to choose just one as there are so many decorative items I use and love but my various silver accessories are always in use. I've collected mostly silver plated holloware but a few sterling candle holders for years and have a lot. I use the small plates as coasters, the various trays for vignettes, the large trays for serving, and have even hung medium size trays on the wall in a grouping.

Here are 3 items (pic taken to show my yard sale finds one day). I think each of these items was $5 proving that cost is not the important factor in beauty or versatility.

For me it's my needlepoint and tapestry pillows (I'm addicted to them and have dozens and dozens) and my
hummels.I have two curios filled with hummels and rotate
them constantly.

I move the pillows around constantly from room
to room as well as the hummels.
Heck, I even made a 'pillow lamp'

we also make a lot of clocks from old faces I scurry up from yard sales and good-will...

I have a large armoire that has an ebony finish and mirrored doors. Because it has no inherent style, it fits in with most any furniture. I've used it for clothing storage in a bedroom, china/crystal storage in a dining room and as a television armoire in a den. Now, it's in the library/media room filled with DVDs and books.

I have several off-white vintage bowls that have served many purposes in many rooms. Holders for DH's stuff on his dresser, holders for fruit in the kitchen, holders for Christmas ornaments in the living room, etc.
