Only treats!

Always, and for my neighbor's pets also. I don't want them to feel left out. :)

Always! A new stuffed squeaky toy for sure and usually some custom baked dog treats. And they get wrapped, as pulling off and destroying the wrapping is as much fun as actually getting to the treats!

The cat could care less as long as he is fed promptly first thing in the morning :-))

one year i MADE homemade dog biscuits for every canine on my "list". after rolling, rolling, rolling, cutting, cutting, cutting... and baking, it dawned on me. NONE of the dogs cared a bit what shape the treats were in!!

I've noticed that there are 100's of items for dogs available for gifting in the stores. And maybe, if we're lucky, one or two for cats. Yet more people own cats than dogs. Figure that one out. That being said, no. I've never bought my animals a gift. They're animals and have no idea what Christmas or birthdays are. I see no reason for it other than to spend more money on holidays that are already money grabbers.

I also noticed the same difference in Costco: the pet aisle is 99% dedicated to dogs. There is one bin for outdoor bird seed and one skid of adult cat food. The entire rest of the aisle is for dogs. (yes, I side tracked. Blame the strong coffee... ;) )

We bought things the first couple of years we had pets, but the kids are older now and we have simplified. The pets get things as they need them. The pets just want food and interaction. They have a pretty good life.

I agree. Years ago I did the doggy stocking. Now, not so much. Our dog gets treated like royalty every day.

I don't care if they don't know it's Christmas or their birthday.....it's as much for MY enjoyment as it is theirs!! And since the dog IS my family, he and my adult daughter are the only two I actually buy gifts for, so NBD!

If the cat were the slightest bit interested in treats or toys, I'd get him something as well. But he doesn't even respond to catnip :-) But he sure comes alive and running when he hears that can opening!!

Some years, a new toy all three cats can share. Every year, I buy decorated doggie cookies for Grace, the neighbor's black lab. In fact, I buy her the cookies for every Holiday and season. When I had dogs, I'd buy them new squeaky toys, so much fun to see them tear the paper off or just walk around squeaking the toys unwrapped!

I had a Great Dane named Alexis. I hid her Christmas gifts on top of the TV armoire in the livingroom. I'd tease and say "Where are the Merry Christmas gifts?" She would sit and stare and whine. Awwww, I miss her.

Mine get their usual food and attention. I do pick up a large bag of bird seed for a friend, on a limited budget, who enjoys feeding the birds. They're kind of like pets to her.

We get toys for our cats, more as an excuse to spoil them because we love them and they love us back.

No, the dogs didn't, but I'll bet their humans enjoyed and appreciated your labor of love!

When I had pets I gave them Christmas gifts. I gave gifts to my family, and he was part of that family! One dog in particular had a lot of fun tearing open his package, and would keep his new toy with him constantly for several days.

We don't have our very own dog now, but we do have 2 granddogs and 5 neighbor dogs. I get them all get gifts of treats, plus I get the granddogs new toys to unwrap, much to my enjoyment! I wouldn't dream of not getting something for these 4 legged family members.

Nope. My dogs and cats live like royalty every day. Xmas is not a concept they "get" so maybe they'll get a treat. We don't do toys. One dog rips them to shred the other has zero interest. Cats are too old to play.

I give the granddogs presents. The two who like toys get new squeaky toys. The other two get a bag of high quality meaty treats.

My Little Lil gets a small plushy toy. It can't be one with the fur type covering as she licks her toys and I'm told ingesting enough of that fur stuff causes blockages. No treats of any kind ever except an occassional spoon of plain yogurt or 3 cheerios maybe every few months. I'm one of those meanie dog moms who think the best treat is a few pieces of their kibble.

My cats love the tissue paper, especially if you hide toys in it. They dive bomb it and get it all over the living room. Then they sleep on it.

My husband just purchased our cat a birthday present.

Mayflowers, not to mention, cats love the boxes, not what came in them.

I don’t go out of my way to buy for Christmas because I get her new balls or toys often. All I have to say is “new toy” and she’ll start poking her nose in the bags to find it.

When we had dogs, they'd get pancakes and fried eggs for breakfast on Christmas morning. They were really disciplined about not begging from the humans, so when we'd put the plates down for them, they'd look at us like "this is a joke, right?". We had to tell them it was ok and then they'd go to town. It was always funny to watch them lap up the egg yolks.

Yes I buy Mia something, often a new piece of clothing since she has very thin hair she is always cold. She has only one type of toy she plays with, I buy another one anytime I find one because they are very hard to find. I had a stash of brand new ones that were in a drawer in the house, lost unfortunately. But I had scooped up several of them and put in her travel crate with her when we got out of the house so she has a few. One has been undergoing brain surgery recently lol. I also buy something for my neighbors 2 black labs. They destroy stuffed toys immediately so I get treats too. I find a good number of gently used stuffed toys at the goodwill store. Just be sure to never buy the ones with those tiny beads in them like beanie babies! NEVER! LOL.

Omg chewy has her favorite hedgehog toy! I am so happy to find them. I used to get them at bed bath and beyond but they quit carrying them.

Lol Raven.....and all that hair fur Lily would choke to death. She mothers her toys. She licks them for hours. She has a Rudolph toy she loves that must be 5 years old now. Its undergone many surgerys. And is in fact missing a leg. I've tried looking for a new one but googling it only gives me hundreds to search thru. Lol.

Funny that I hadn't thought of this, but I buy gifts for my "grand dogs" or niece's/son's/daughter's dogs, but not my own. Like many others here, they have it made with me. Spoiled rotten creatures.

Molly has an eyeless, earless, tailless Eeyore that she decided would be her ‘baby’ when she was a puppy roughly the same size as the Eeyore. I regularly have to stitch that thing back together it’s so well-loved. Then there is the raccoon plushy which I de-squeakered so that Molly would play with it. She’s not one for the squeaky toys.

This year I have been buying sweaters in anticipation of the cold weather, we’re up to 6 now and a set of booties which she so far only wears to ‘play dead’ not actually walk with them on. Baby steps?

This will be our two kittens first Christmas, and although they don't "need" any more toys, yes, they will be getting new toys. Hubby just bought a large Styrofoam ice chest/cooler and made a house for outside stray/neighborhood cats to use, so we spoil them too. Some treats will be put outside for those cats on Christmas too or for whatever creatures come around.

Jenn, your comment reminded me of a dog I used to have who latched on to an old Dearfoam slipper when he was puppy. Lordy, did he love that thing, sleeping with it, sucking on it (eeww!) and playing fetch with it constantly. I actually developed tennis elbow from tossing it for him when I was watching TV at night :-) He was never without his slipper!

Unfortunately, he didn't live all that long, developing a serious kidney disorder, but his beloved slipper went with him on trips to the vet, was with him when he passed and was actually cremated along with him. As much as I loved him, I think he loved that raggedy old slipper more than he loved me!

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. She is happy and taken care of very well.

Everyday. I give her the gift of my adoration of fluffness (not a misspelling. That's what I call her; along with fluff-fluff, fluff-butt, fluffy girl). I don't give the cats gifts every time. Sometimes. But like others, I give them stuff (toys, treats, etc.) all the time.

We usually get the dogs a new toy at Christmas. Never thought about wrapping them, but now I will probably real simple tissue paper twisted at the top like a Hersey's Kiss, no tape.

My pets are spoiled year round :) So they get to play in the boxes our gifts come in which is always the best present ever to my cats. Sometimes I'll buy my doxie one of those doxie shaped toys at Petsmart.

Each Christmas they are still in my life is the greatest present. I make sure to let them know how much I love having them in my life by treating them well and spoiling them rotten :)

We have two cats and seeing it is their first Christmas, they will be included. The children will each get $10 to make their choices at the dollar store. Honestly, if not for the youngsters, I wouldn't bother.

After reading all the responses, I've decided I'll make home made treats for my friends' with dogs and stitch up some mice with catnip for the cats.

I was floored to discover that the laser pointer I'd bought to entertain the cat with was much more interesting to Molly (dog) who loved to chase after that moving red dot - until I lost the pointer. If I found it again I'm sure that she'd be more than pleased. :P The cat passed on a few years ago, but there are multiple moments symbolic of my time with her that will never disappear from my memory (they're just too darn funny and shocking to forget)!

I saw some laser pointer toys in the pet dept. yesterday and picked some up for friends pets. Never heard of them until this thread.

No, I don't buy gifts for the pets, but I got a big donation from the Rescue Bank that had lots of toys for dogs and cats, and nice pet beds, leashes and collars....also food. so much stuff it took two trucks to bring home. I declined the treats which would have taken up too much space and most of them, I wouldn't feed anyway.

Oh, I forgot. I usually give my grandcat a gift card for $50 to petsmart. Just don't buy for my own pets because I don't need them.
