Would this make a good rain barrel? Cross post
Comments (8)I'm going to give you my opinion and like anything, it is based of experience, not scientific data. There was a time (last week ;) when rural people didn't think anything of dumping used motor/hydraulic oil anywhere it wasn't readily seen. My dad used to do it. It would kill a plant if it was covered with the oil but didn't have any lasting effect on the soil or plants where dumped. If you wash the container out the residue amount will be so small I don't think it would hurt anything, especially if the water is dripped into the soil. Oil, especially new oil, is not that toxic. If it was we wouild have lots of dying mechanics around. And that is a good price on the tanks, especially with valves. Just my .02...See MoreWhat climbing rose bush would look good here, zone 5?
Comments (32)My ND rose is doing ok, it has sent out a few really long stems..I’d say about 5’ -6’ long...but only like 3 of them so far...I put it in a place next to my ugly chain link fence so it could get as big as it likes because the more it hides that fence the better...this will be it’s 2nd full year in the new spot, so I’m sure I’ll see more growth from it this year...as far as that area...idk if I’m going to put any roses there...ideally I’d love to, but we already have a ton of bees near the pool and I think putting more flowers will just bring even more...I love bees don’t get me wrong, but I don’t love them buzzing around my head when I’m trying to relax by the pool...and my yard seems to have all the aggressive types..so not only cute little bumblebees..I have those huge black and white hornets, yellow jackets, and these tiny little black ones that sting like a b***h!! So I more want to discourage them there, than encourage them lol...which stinks because it’s a perfect area for a nice climber :’(...See MoreRemove good (but disliked) floor tile? Will new wall color help, or...
Comments (12)Those are STUNNING, HIGH-END floors! I mean it! The tile size, layout and in-lay accents are STUNNING! There are people who would LOVE to have those floors (sigh...or the BUDGET to install them). That being said, they are in the creamier/peach travertine colouring. Peach and gray don't normally go together...now without a TON of Certified Kitchen Designer help. Because you have a high-end home with some higher priced finishes (LOVE you space BTW!!! Bright and unique...two of my FAVOURITE things) I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a well versed (ahem...long established) Certified KD. Save the money you would spend on the flooring ($2/sf to REMOVE the tile + $18/sf to install new tile) and hire a designer to help you see where your home can go without removing the amazing tile. To replace (equal value) the tile you have, you are looking at the HIGHER priced tile installs (higher value product + HIGH value labour). Replacing all that tile won't be cheap. If you are unsure of your budget, then I suggest you sit down and work some numbers. A Certified KD will help you find a balance between budget and style. It appears your kitchen is in more need of a redo than the flooring. I would keep my eye on the prize. And yes, wall colouring can reduce the "floating" sensation you have in your home. Again, the KD can help with home colours as well. Please keep us posted. I think this will be an impressive project when everything is said and done (and yes...I think reupholstering your furniture is a GREAT idea)....See MoreWhat decor would look good on the walls on both sides of fireplace
Comments (15)I think that one is ugly and doesn't fit your space. search, "Ikea bookcase hack' or Ikea hacks for media cabinet or shelving. there are a ton of ideas. or try something like this. its a large open wall space. make it look nice and display books, or artwork, whatever. they even have an Ikea hack using Billy Bookcases that look like built ins. paint the wall a dark color if doing white shelving for a more custom look...See MoreElizabeth B
