Too much of a good thing?
Comments (14)One of my "brown" sources is hardwood planer shavings. I have a contractor friend who, when he planes JUST hardwood (i.e. not coniferous woods - poplar, although relatively soft is technically a hardwood), saves me his planer shavings. I also can't use hardwoods such as Walnut. If you get some coniferous shavings, that's not the end of the world... they just take longer to rot, especially the cedars and hemlocks. I just add a thin layer of these. You need to trust the provider to not have contaminated the shavings with any sawdust from manufactured products such as particle board or OSB... too many glues. Obviously the provider will have to be using a dust collection system to collect what you need. My blog is not directly related to this topic, but you may find it interesting anyway. Here is a link that might be useful: Lively Dirt - the Garden Blog...See MoreIs animal print still popular in your area?
Comments (9)I'm not sure it was ever really "in" here in NH. (It wasn't particularly popular in fashion here, either. Maybe down in Boston, I dunno.) I've only seen an animal print in the living space of an adult once, but let's just say this particular woman's style was.... well.... umm.... unusual. Sort of a goulash of punk, Goth, and kitsch, I guess you could call it. Very "kewl". Maybe the whole sheepskin an acquaintance of mine has on the floor for her arthritic dog might count as an animal print? LOL I'm not really a fan either. I think there is a VERY fine line between "tasteful" and "trashy" when it comes to animal prints....See MoreBoy, it's a good thing I don't like to watch much TV!
Comments (9)LOL...Do you like to read, Susan? DH and I like to read. We are on satellite, and NEVER watch t.v. that much. DH threatens to cancel our satellite subscription, but I tell him "wait, wait, I'll start watching it", but I never do. LOL. I just LOVE my books. I affectionally tell my friends that travel that I travel too~~~ I have been to Russia as a spy, the Congo on a Safari, an archelolgist in Egypt, in the mideast on a cia covert mission, hidden slaves in my home during the civil war, been in the revolutionary war fightin'- in 3 feet of snow with hypothermia, why I have been Scarlet in a tissy and NOW I DO know something about birthing those babies!!(with long southern eyelashes slapping my "scarlet" cheeks). My adventures only exist in my books and in my imagination.:)...See MoreIs too much brown a bad or good thing? Need opinions
Comments (23)I KNOW I had updated pictures of our Cowboy Chic den but can't for the life of me find them. The 24x26 room isn't a brown brown, more of a orangy brown. Walls and sectional pretty much the same color. The carpet is an antelope print (that's what it's called but it's really an axis deer print, same as the skin on the coffee table)with brown in it. My punches of color are the pillows on the sectional. They're all the same style pillow in brick red, sage green, brownish green, orange, dark brown and gold. Even the tile is close in color and dark brown wood coffee table and end tables. This is the only picture I can find...oh, AND the ceiling in this large room is wood too. I think it's a personal preference whether or not you think it's too much of the same color. We've got a 10 foot long white Austin Chopped stone fireplace (goes all the way to the ceiling) that breaks up the color and plenty of other accessories on the walls (plus 10 windows). Monotone-ish den Vaulted ceiling Couch. We've had THREE couches in this den in 9 years :o The first leather sectional broke (handle) and was replaced under an extended warranty. The second leather set, I never liked. It was uncomfortable and too formal looking for our room. The third time was the charm and it's NOT leather. It's our favorite by far! We have two grandchildren that are here as often as they can talk their momma into letting them come over LOL At least 3 days a week. Even tho food and drink isn't allowed in there and shoes are supposed to come off at the door, stuff happens. Hands don't get wiped or they'll sneak a leaky sippy cup in there while I'm not looking. This is some kind of microfiber that at first glance and especially at a distance, looks like leather. A wipe with a damp microfiber cloth is all it takes to clean it. It's definitely a miracle fabric :) And the baby on the couch...he's the best accessory :)...See Moresableincal
