I have the Eagle Creek Spectre cubes for backpacking, but for regular travel with my suitcase I like something that holds its shape a bit better. I have a set of these Shacke Pak cubes that I like. I tried several brands, and these were the ones that I liked the best.

Usually when we travel, we fly and stay in the same place for awhile. I never appreciated the utility of travel cubes until our plans to take a road trip this winter to warmer places with our dog for about 3 months. We'll have access to laundry facilities where we plan to go, but are visiting many friends and family and have dog-friendly rentals in FL, SC and GA. (I'm tired just thinking about it) but there will be a lot of in and out with our suitcases.

I ran across a pack of 3 travel cubes at Marshall's made by TravelOn. I like the mesh so you can remember what you put in them lol. When we travel to Europe, I put a lot of my things in big ziplock bags because the thought of airport security hands touching stuff really makes me sick but for the very first time in forever we won't have to go through security. We'll just put the luggage and and the Aussie in the SUV and back out of the driveway.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm going to order some more.

For toiletries I like the Thirty-One Gifts hanging toiletry bag. I had and loved the LLBean version, but then I got the Thirty-One bag and prefer it because it can stand up open or closed on a counter in addition to hanging. The LLBean version is not sturdy enough to do that. It is slim enough to pack easily and also goes well in a carry-on if needed. 31 Hanging Toiletry Bag

I'm intrigued by this all in one packing cube/garment bag thingie from Rume. It's on sale now, but I need to resist buying another packing organizer. I keep thinking that if I buy enough organizers that I will become organized. Hasn't happened yet...

I have three of their baggie alls that are great for organizing toiletries, electronic stuff, etc.

I can't remember what brand my cubes are, I got them at TJ Maxx. I like that they are mesh and I can see what's in there. I also like those hanging toiletry bags. I have one from LL Bean but it is a bit too small and not very feminine. I Like being able to hang it from the towel bar and not having to scrabble though a bag to find stuff.

I too like the Eagle Creek bags. The 3 sizes are good for many things. I think I bought mine from ebags on sale & they are translucent. Seems like there is usually some odd color set on sale.

I have also used my mesh laundry bags as dual duty when we are on a long trip and heavy duty zip lock bags, especially for liquids, plus I always like to have a few spares on hand.

The problem with packing cubes is the added weight when traveling with only a carry-on.

Does your DD check a bag when going overseas? If so, then the Eagle Creek packing cubes are fine. If carry-on only, then they add too much weight, IMHO.

I go to Europe at least once a year, so I've tried so many gadgets over the years.

They're not glamorous! I roll up small clothing items (like lingerie) and organize toiletry items (hairbrush and such) that TSA doesn't require in a ziplock. Then, I can hang those bags in the bathroom.

@ dyhgarden, the Eagle Creek 3 cubes weigh less than 2.2 oz cumulatively.

Those are an improvement in weight from EC!

I use the REI brand expandable cubes w/ mesh sides. They have a zipper that allows each one to expand and/or you can compact the contents in tight. Also, they open completely instead of on just one side like some others. I always travel with just a carry on, and these only add 2-3 ounces each. The most I've ever used is three of varying sizes at any give time but typically two.REI expandable

EC has a similar product without the mesh. I picked the REI because of the mesh, and because they opened completely.

I suggest ebags ultralight packing cubes. Ds and I traveled to Italy on Norweigan a couple of years ago and every ounce mattered to meet the carry on limits (plus we carried our backpacks all over Italy via train).

Ebags sell them in different combinations so look around the site if that one doesn't work for you. Also ebags often runs sales so I would make sure to catch a sale.

Those REI cubes are no longer available, but I've noticed in the past that they are identical to these Lewis N Clark packing cubes.
