Is being able to SEE all the food worth counter-depth smallness?
Comments (18)Hey All - Old thread eh?! Well I got the Samsung french door counter depth fridge which is the FRG238 (identical to the more easily found 237 w/ only difference being that there's ice below in the freezer as well as in the door). It's only been a couple of days but so far - knock on wood - I'm CRAZY psycho in love. Granted I'd been using a 1990 18.2 cu. ft. freezer-on-top standard fridge w/ no space in the door for a gallon of milk and old-fashioned ice trays in the freezer! Also, the contractor doesn't start work on the kitchen (partial remodel) till Monday or Tuesday so until he arrives, I don't have the water and ice function yet...they need to hook the fridge up to the water from the basement I think. Anyway, I feel like a queen. Maybe most of you are used to such luxuries but I'm sure as heck not. I love how the freezer door handle bends up a bit when you pull on it - it makes opening it a lot easier. I love the two shelves and dividers in the freezer and the little skinny-things pop down tray by the door entry as well. I love all the adjustable shelves and how much SPACE there is compared to what I had before...and this is counter-depth! Only 4.5 or so more cubic feet but the layout makes it like it's 6 or 7 more cubic feet. I love that I could have 3 gallons of milk (or more?) in the door if I wanted. I love that the ice/water in door doesn't take up much room. I love the deli tray w/ its adjustable temp. settings. I love the digital display and the blue lights and cool chiming sounds. Love the child lock and door alarm and that I could turn off the ice makers if I don't need them (I think individually if I only want ice from in the door for example) and I love knowing that if we have more people over than usual we'll have extra ice since there are 2 ice-makers. I love how I rarely how to bend down anymore (I use the fridge space more than freezer). I didn't think I would, but I already love the wine holder and the pop holder. I love how quiet it is (haven't yet heard ice drop which I expect to be sort of loud - at least if the tray's open). And lastly, the look. It's so, so pretty. Ok. Now we wait. We wait and see how the water/ice will be. And then we wait some more and see how long it lasts before having problems. The reviews are great. Even consumer reports has updated their fridge ratings and gives Samsung high marks now. They don't mention this model for some reason but I think that's a fluke since the other ones they mention are identical except just not counter-deep - and also cause this particular model gets better reviews than any of their other models, everywhere else. Oh so btw I paid somewhere around $2300 at Lowe's when they just had a sale combined w/ my using a 10% off coupon. After that I paid another $200 or so for a 5 year warrantee. Lowe's is the only store, as far as I know, that offers the RFG238 (dual ice) as opposed to RFG237 which can be found at most other stores. Thanks - sorry this was so long....See MoreWhat's the largest U.S. export to China?
Comments (50)If Noah had lived in the United States today the story may have gone something like this: And the Lord spoke to Noah and said, "In one year, I am going to make it rain and cover the whole earth with water until all flesh is destroyed. But I want you to save the righteous people and two of every kind of living thing on earth. Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark." In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark. In fear and trembling, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the ark. "Remember," said the Lord, "you must complete the Ark and bring everything aboard in one year." Exactly one year later, fierce storm clouds covered the earth and all the seas of the earth went into a tumult. The Lord saw that Noah was sitting in his front yard weeping. "Noah!" He shouted. "Where is the Ark?" "Lord, please forgive me," cried Noah. "I did my best, but there were big problems. First, I had to get a permit for construction, and your plans did not meet the building codes. I had to hire an engineering firm and redraw the plans. Then I got into a fight with OSHA over whether or not the Ark needed a sprinkler system and approved floatation devices. Then, my neighbor objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a variance from the city planning commission. Then, I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a ban on cutting trees to protect the Spotted Owl. I finally convinced the U.S. Forest Service that I really needed the wood to save the owls. However, the Fish and Wildlife Service won't let me take the 2 owls. The carpenters formed a union and went on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the National Labor Relations Board before anyone would pick up a saw or hammer. Now, I have 16 carpenters on the Ark, but still no owls. When I started rounding up the other animals, an animal rights group sued me. They objected to me taking only two of each kind aboard. This suit is pending. Meanwhile, the EPA notified me that I could not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact statement on your proposed flood. They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of the Creator of the Universe. Then, the Army Corps of Engineers demanded a map of the proposed flood plain. I sent them a globe. Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that I am practicing discrimination by not taking atheists aboard. The IRS has seized my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in preparation to flee the country to avoid paying taxes. I just got a notice from the state that I owe them some kind of user tax and failed to register the Ark as a 'recreational water craft'. And finally, the ACLU got the courts to issue an injunction against further construction of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it's a religious event, and, therefore unconstitutional. I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another five or six years." Noah waited. The sky began to clear, the sun began to shine, and the seas began to calm. A rainbow arched across the sky. Noah looked up hopefully. "You mean you're not going to destroy the earth, Lord?" "No," He said sadly. "I don't have to. The government already has."...See MoreHubby's retirement party--he wants more 'manly' food!
Comments (24)Here are a couple of recipes I collected from earlier postings (with the original comments) **************** Buffalo Chicken Posted by debbie814 Side note: This is a recipe that my hubbie makes that he learned from his college roommate from Buffalo, NY. It's very yummy!! 8 boneless chicken breasts Mix together: 1 small bottle of Frank's hot sauce (6 oz.) ½ stick of melted margarine 3 cloves garlic (minced) Dip chicken in bread crumbs, and fry in vegetable oil until golden brown. Place in baking dish, and pour the mixture over the breasts. Bake or 25 minutes @ 350. If you want it spicier, use less margarine. If you want it milder, use more margarine. Serve celery sticks with bleu cheese dressing as a side dish. ************** Buffalo Chicken Dip posted by Glenda_al 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 lbs) 1 12oz. bottle Frank's Hot Sauce 2 8oz pkgs. cream cheese 1 16oz. bottle blue cheese salad dressing(or Ranch if you prefer) 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar, Mont. Jack or a combo Boil chicken until cooked through, shred with 2 forks. Preheat oven to 350. In a 13x9, combine chicken with hot sauce and spread evenly. In a large saucepan over med. heat, combine the cream cheese and dressing, stirring until smooth and hot. Pour evenly over chicken. Bake uncovered for 20 min., then sprinkly with shredded cheese and bake uncovered for another 10 min. Let stand 10 min. before serving. Note: Serve with Frito scoops, your favorite crackers, etc. Just be sure to have a spoon or fork to put on chips, crackers! Have made this many times, and found it works better, for me, by mixing everything together, including the cheese, then bake for 20-30 minutes until good and hot. Then let it stand for 10 minutes or EVEN LONGER to serve. ******************** I haven't made either yet, but they sound yummy... and manly! Also, what about pizza? make the crust ahead (or I can also buy it from my local pizzaria) and put his favorite toppings on it. Cut it in squares for bite-size pieces....See MoreHoly Cow!
Comments (28)LindaC, "What it all boils down to is, Americans found out what BPI was putting into the "ground beef" they were selling to the schools, to McDonalds, putting into tubes of 90% lean beef, into premade meat patties.....and they don't like it. They have discovered that what they thought was muscle meat is in reality a large percentage of ground up gristle and connective tissue, so prone to contamination that it must be sterilized with ammonia, and they don't like it and won't buy it. I certainly don't blame the press, the activists and the chefs for blowing the whistle. Remember, if you are always completely transparent, there is nothing to be feared.? Not even close. What it really boils down to is, Americans found out what ABC’S DISTORTED REPORTING of what LFTB really is, which is 100% pure beef, free of pathogenic organisms, the word "slime" should not have been used for responsible reporting. I am surprised, of all the people, you the Queen of Googling, have complete been taken in by this kind of reporting, without checking facts. You actually believe that there is ." the sinew, connective tissue and other parts that aren't roasts or chops or able to be ground into 85% or leaner ground beef." You could have only gotten that information from ABC, because those are not in LFTB. You actually believe that LFTB is the only food uses Ammonia (and chlorine, where do you get chlorine?!), and that kitchen poisonous Ammonia detergent is, as demonstrated by Jamie Oliver (check it out on youtube) poured on the meat to sanitize the meat! If you are not so brain washed by ABC you would have picked up the question he was asking the audience is very leading: "The scrap is nornally used for dog food, do you want to feed your children dog food?" What does LFTB has to do with real dog food? If you are not committing "Confirmation Bias" you would have picked up what he said in the same video, "I haven't got anything against (Slime) burgers, I have no problem eating the burgers, I eat them and I love them, the problem is where they come from and what (Ammonia kitchen detergent) is in them". I will not comment on your characterization that Mexicans, Guatemalans and Somalis are by nature filthy and irresponsible. McDonalds, do you actually think that they did not do extensive studies before they started to use LFTB? Yes, LFTB is cheaper, but they found LFTB is more sanitary then regular ground beef, it is also leaner, and above all, taste tests showed customers prefer LFTB over regular ground beef. You object to BPI's making a healthy profit selling LFTB selling a healthy product, but you have no problem with ABC's attempt in gaining ratings using malicious means to destroy a viable business. NBC and CBS only mentioned the issue a couple of times and ABC repeated the same thing 10 different times. Freedom of speech does not permit libel. Drawing a swastika on a wall is not protected by freedom of speech. "It's OK for ABC's distorted reporting, because it has accomplished a good thing" Does the end justify the means? Don't ask me, Hafez al-Assad, Saddam Hussein, and Osama bin Laden can probably give you a better answer. Scrapple is made from parts also used in dog food, go ahead and have it banned. There is nothing untrue about the following statement, but is it responsible journalism if I was to report it the following manner:? OMG! Alarming! Disgusting! Do you know and have you seen in Italy, what they are making? Green mold, and fungus completely covered pork intestines with pork slime inside, rotting with bacteria for months at room temperature!! They sell those to you for high prices and, get this; they even ask you to eat them totally uncooked? Mamma Mia! tanto per tali rifiuti! dcarch...See Morehoovb zone 9 sunset 23
