Paper towels or blow dry hands?
Comments (28)Posted by jennmonkey: What I refuse to touch are those old fashioned ones where the same piece of material just keeps coming back around, having dried by the time it's back to the front. You don't really believe that do you? Or were you just kidding? Sometimes I can't tell when people are just joking around. The machines have a CLEAN roll inserted that is many feet long. As the towel is used it is wound on an empty spindle. When the clean one runs out it is replaced with another clean roll. The dirty roll is removed and and empty spindle is put in its place to which the end of the clean tool is attached. I prefer those cloth hand towels. They don't wind up all over the floor and sinks like paper ones do. People have been known to throw the paper hand towels in the toilet thus clogging them. The air blowers blow germs all over the room and you have to stand there forever waiting to get the hands dry while people wait behind you to use them....See MoreOT. The North Wind Doth Blow
Comments (32)Vee, one of my English landladies in the 1970s was quite proud of the courgettes (zucchini) she grew in her back garden in London! The '70s must have been unusually warm and dry (I seem to remember they were but I can't swear to it), because I had to warn her to watch out or the little devils would take over. She didn't believe me, but sure enough I came home after a few weeks in France to find baskets of zucchini all over the house and my landlady miffed that she couldn't give them away to anyone and everyone she accosted. She grew larger marrows too, and treated me with a gigantic one with bread and mushroom farci). I was the only one of her tenants who appreciated her effort, I think. Whoa, that's a shame about the salmon. They used to have lots in the rivers of Brittany, too; but the last I heard they were sparse, although the Department powers were trying to reestablish them. Somebody got the idea to ship salmon to the Kerguelen Archipelago, just about the most isolated islands in the Indian Ocean. That was in the early 1980s, but the salmon introduced there actually started coming 'home' to Kerguelen. I haven't kept up with the experiment so don't know if the antipodean salmon are still doing it. Anyway, I wonder why the Severn/Wye salmon haven't been reestablished...must not be a priority. I had eel pie, not knowing what it was, and thought it was quite tasty. I don't mind the elvers but the adults are rather scary. I can just imagine you with your net and creel. :-) We in the US are quite spoilt with good citrus, with three prime citrus-growing locales (California, south Texas, Florida). We won't put up with lousy fruit unless there's been a horribly devastating freeze (thankfully rare). I'm especially fond of Texas Ruby Red grapefruits from 'the Valley' of the Rio Grande. The season for them runs from October through March. I got to Texas at the tail end, but my ever thoughtful brother got a twenty-pound bag for me so I've had a grapefruit for breakfast everyday for the past week. Where is the citrus you get in England grown? I've had Spanish oranges and can't say I've been impressed, but Spanish lemons seemed all right. You should know better, Vee, than get me started on food and food production....See MoreHFGH Solution for wind blowing panels out
Comments (16)LOL well it's been four years, that's my pic at the top. Recently we had a freak windstorm over much of the country. We had winds 70- 80mph. I still have all the panels but barely. When the door blew off, the greenhouse inflated and the tops and bottoms of almost all the panes were out of the frames. Those little clips are almost worthless. the wood 1X2's were the only thing holding it together. I noticed that all the panels on the sunny (west) side are very deteriorated. I have been reading that replacing all the panels is not worth the $$$. Some suggest buying a whole new greenhouse. If i gather the energy to start over, i may try to figure out a way to use nothing but wood 1X2's, top middle and bottom. Here's how it looked AFTER. Rocks in front of the door and tie=downs....See MoreIonic hair dryers - pros and cons
Comments (23)My Rusk arrived yesterday and I used it for the first time this morning. I think it's too soon for me to give it a complete review. However, two people remarked on how beautiful my hair looks today! One person I know and someone I don't. So there's that. Despite my best efforts I have good and bad hair days for no obvious reason, so it could just be one of those days. To complicate matters, I started using a mousse, which I never did before (Joico Joiwhip, #1 in a recent mousse report). I think the mousse might be adding to my hair's new likability. The cord is VERY long (8 ft.). I guess that's great if you want to go for a stroll while drying your hair. One thing I notice is the hot is really freaking hot, so I switch back and forth between warm and hot. My limited used of a round brush seems to have more "take" than with my old dryer, i.e., a short blast of hot air sets better. Totally unscientific observation. Today I was in Costco and stumbled upon a Conair InfinitiPro (ionic) for $19.99. I bought it, because sometimes I don't know when to stop. I can always return it, whenever....See Morellitm
