Laundry room layout help, please!

Allison M

We're in the process of building a home and I'm stuck on the laundry room layout. The size of the laundry room is about 8'x6'2". I can add about 3-4 more inches on the 6'2" side if needed. I'm planning on moving the sink next to the washer. The other square is a laundry chute. I had originally planned on doing lower cabinets on the right with a folding counter but now I think I might want to skip the cabinets and have space to store laundry baskets (unfortunately, laundry does not always get folded right away). Is that a better use of the space? Also, I prefer a top load washer, but if I had two front loads I could put a folding counter on top of that instead and maybe put one tall cabinet on the right for broom/mop/cleaning etc and then still have space for baskets. But then where would I put my hanging items?

No idea if I'm on the right track here - any input would be appreciated!
