Have you ever made/had sweet potato cornbread?
Comments (12)Well dang! I thought I had gotten it off Facebook or Pinterest but I can't find it and I'm not at home. I can add the recipe later. It's mashed sweet potatoes, white cornmeal mix, pumpkin pie spice (which I don't like so I used cinnamon), eggs, butter, a little sugar. I think that was all. It was really good....See MoreHave you ever made slip covers for a leather sectional?
Comments (7)One thing that you need to be aware of with leather is that it is slippery, so your slipcover would have to have some good anchoring. The fact that there are moving parts on it does complicate matters. You have probably already done what is the most logical and easiest thing by adding some color elements. My opinion is that, while it can be done, it might not be worth it with all of those complications. I don't think it matters much what kind of fabric for the slipcover. What matters more is what is covering the couch, the leather. It has no nap and no texture for anything to grip it. Slipcovers are problematic in the best of circumstances. Another consideration is the amount of fabric needed for something that large. Would you be doing this yourself or hiring out? I think that unless you could get a good price on the fabric and do it yourself that you are looking at an expense that is probably not worth it. This past week I made a slipcover for an Ikea chair. But, this is a cushion that I can take off and work with. It turned out well. I also refreshed another chair that I use with my desk. I had recovered it many years ago and it developed a very worn place. Luckily I still have a length of that cloth and I made a tie on cover for the seat, replaced the arm covers and made a nice cushion all of the remaining fabric. It will last me for as long as I need it to last. For you, it might be better to just buy new furniture if you don't like the one you have....See MoreHave You Ever Seen a Kitchen Backsplash Made of Wood?
Comments (17)Nini, I am not in love with the granite. We didn’t choose the counter and I would not have chosen it. But.....after having kitchens in different houses and chasing expensive trends in what was supposed to be the forever house that I eventually could not wait to leave because supervising it was like being the mayor of my own town, I am very reluctant to change it. For one, what would I change it to? I don’t love quartz or marble, certainly not enough to change this for either. I still love tile counters but would not do that bc they are impractical. If anything I would change to wood counters, then would still have to do something with backsplash and probably would end up changing the cabinets too. I am not going down that rabbit hole this time. I’m not after a dream kitchen—-I just want to like this one more. And to accomplish that I will do smaller projects targeted at the element I like least, in this case the backsplash. Does that make sense? It would not have to me twenty years ago!...See MoreHas anyone ever made onion pie?
Comments (2)Sounds a bit like Tarte Flambee or Flammekueche, albeit thicker and with more onions. I love onions and I'm sure I would like the recipe you made, though personally I never cook with sweet onions even when they are called for in a recipe. IMO they have no flavor at all when cooked, especially when caramelized. It seems counterintuitive that a yellow onion would be sweeter and more flavorful when caramelized than a sweet onion, but that is the case in my experience. Your suggested addition of cheese or spice would definitely help!...See MoreUser
