Hardware and Backsplash Help
Comments (4)I know I was sitting in this very spot a few hours ago, thinking I should be packing. Lol..but well...I am a procrastinator...and really the things I will take with me, I'll use up until we move. Lol.. I was looking at my husbands CD collection and video/dvd's and thinking he should just get rid of it..lol. I am looking at ORB in the new house. Hubby wants to go with a darker stain on his new bar stools he built. So I think they would pick that up. Plus ORB just needs a wipe and a dry. Where right now with my nickel, I have to "rub" a bit to shine em back up....See MoreBacksplash Help...small SS backsplash??? Pics?
Comments (8)Thanks prill...I'm leaning towards only doing tile in area to the left of the casing...then in the window area just doing paint and the casing down to the counter. I guess I'll just have to be more dilligent with cleaning. The Reef was the first tile that spoke to me...I really thought I was going to go for a more solid blue, but reef is so much softer....it allows me to play up the color of the walls more...not that I have a lot of walls...And, I found out that my designer can get it for about 12.50/sf where I was quoted around $15/sf....See MoreTo backsplash or not to backsplash...
Comments (13)Ooooh, you have me a little worried. I am planning a white on white kitchen...but back to the topic at hand. No I definitely don't think a lip of a backsplash is at all unfinished. In fact, i think most houses just have a lip? I wonder if the wall of a BS is a new thing. In fact i just took a quick look at property listings (no I am not a realtor, haha) and the 3 houses I clicked on (close to a million$) all had a lip of a backsplash. I think it is personal preference. And your right it is a dust catcher=). but better to have dust than me rub off my wall every time I wipe my counters down. (good paint may well solve that dilemma) but I do think that it looks naked with nothing. We cook alot ( and I am messy) so I have to have something behind my stove...and personally i do like the full wall of backsplash. If you have soapstone, that may break up the white enough to not make it so stark. You could possibly consider the lip of soapstone and then tile above that....? Best of luck...See MoreHELP! Comments (14)mommyto4boys - The 4x4 sample tile in my picture is a tumbled marble in a 'botticino' color. The accent 2x2 is says 'cot renzaor' bronze on the back. Not sure that will be very helpful to you - sorry. I don't know if it comes in black or not. I found it at Ceramic Tileworks in MN. (www.ceramictileworksmn.com) I have been to 3 different tile places and found that the tumbled stone and marble hues are all slightly different. They look so different once I get the sample home and against the granite (and under my lighting). My advice would be to continue to look and bring home samples until you find the one that doesn't take on the 'pink'. You'll know it once you see it. I also found that each of the tile shops carried different accent pieces. Your kitchen has a little bit of an 'old world' feel with the light fixture. I like the rougher, tumbled edges of tile with that style rather than the smooth, more formal pieces. But I am far from an expert on that - which is why I'm following your post closely to see what other suggestions surface:) Good luck on your search, and please keep us posted! I'll be eager to see what you decide - and maybe change my mind on what I want:) organic nettie - I think the Ornamentale would go very well with cream cabinets and dark floor. The granite has beautiful dark brown streaks in it, along with some caramel tones and garnet flecks. The garnet flecks are very dark toned rather than bright red. I feel it ties my various wood species and stains quite well....See MoreLeah
