Comments (6)I am confused. You had mentioned that you did a light root pruning. When you speak of roots coming out from the base bottom. I am assuming that these are now beneath the new soil in the pot you repotted it into? They will become larger (thicker) over time and more will be visible as you raise it every couple years or so. If you raised it a bit when potting it will be fine. Make sure that the caudex does not burn in hot sun and leave in one position when it is acclimatized to sun (when settled after potting) as turning can result in the caudex getting burnt. Comments (8)If they are aphids - need photo to confirm - don't panic! White pine aphids seldom do any permanent damage and I seriously doubt aphids were the cause of the death of your previous pines. There are other issues which can be much more serious to the health of these trees but it is only speculation at this point exactly what caused the problem....unreasonable to blame the aphids however. While ants do hang out with - an even 'farm' - aphids for their sweet honeydew, they are also attracted to the sweetish sap or resin the pines can emit for any number of reasons, some, like pine borers - quite serious. Try hosing off - usually a strong stream of water will dislodge/remove the bulk of the problem. If stronger stuff needed, try a horticultural oil. and fwiw, your other conifers are safe. White pine aphids feed only on white pines. No probs with the leylands or green giants....See Morewhite larva all over my patio/planter trees
Comments (4)Hard to tell from this picture, but they could be aphids, which can often cause problems on Japanese Maples. Would need a clearer picture to say definitively that this is what you have....See MoreWhite haze marks all over hardwood floors!
Comments (5)Ok, so vinegar and water is not ok to use? That's what my flooring people tell me to use. She is using my mop so I know she is not spreading anything. The only thing I can think of is she is putting something else in the mix or using too much vinegar. I went out and bought some Bonax. I will have her use that instead since I don't think she can goof that up. I did read on another forum said to use windex to get the spots up. It worked. So now I just need to keep them that way. lol Thanks! Sandy...See Morehomepro01
