Blue Stone Stairs are Holding Water

Hi,

I had a professional install blue stone stair treads. The problem is, they either pitch towards the riser, or there is a little lip on them, that causes water to be retained. So when raining, a small amount of water builds up, and people splash themselves. And when there is a small puddle, it freezes, and makes the steps very slippery.

I would like to SAND DOWN the blue stone treads and get rid of the extra lip. And maybe cause a pitch away from the tread and/or to the far right, where the water will drip on to the grass. I don't know what happens when you SAND DOWN blue stone... will it show as WEAR and TEAR on the treads? Or will it blend in?

Perhaps the correct way to fix this is to break the cement bond and reset the treads? Is that possible, or will I likely break the blue stone? Should I pretty much plan to replace the treads?

Is this something I can fix as a homeowner, or should I have a professional handle it?

Thanks for your help and feedback,

R
