Are colorful FL's too trendy?
Comments (15)I'm being misunderstood. I have no qualms against attractive laundry rooms - indeed, given that several I've seen much be walked through when entering the house from the garage or side entrance, and are thus the first inside view of the house many people see, I'm usually the one urging homeowners to spruce up their laundry rooms. I was merely commenting on why distinctively-colored laundry machines have become so common in the 2000s, after decades of availability in white or ivory only, and why the color selection in other major appliances is smaller. The marketing strategy seems to be: homeowner's washing machine break, goes to store to buy new one, sees an expensive but cool-looking metallic seafoam green washer, wants to buy it but realizes it will make the old white dryer look out of place, figures the dryer will need replacement soon anyway, so buys the matching-color dryer too. Then, years later, when one of the machines needs replacement (or the laundry area is remodeled), seafoam green is no longer available, so homeowner again has to buy two machines, now both metal-flake red (or taupe, or sky blue)....See MoreBlue Pearl Granite & Black and Gray Glass tile back splash too mu
Comments (25)oh mayflowers forgot to say that I like the idea of adding cabinets to back of peninsula area but was also thinking of having two backless bar stools with black leather seats there as well. Will have to think about the wainscoating and now that I look closely the area could use an update and it is scuffed up. the more we look the more we see that needs help with this house Ugh thanks so much Here is the living room, my carpenter is fashioning a pine wood free floating mantle as we speak, it will have oil on it and natural tones. We have sofa facing the fireplace that's a thin cordoroy material in a light blue/green and plan to have an accent chair against the other wall (the staircase wall) with perhaps some type of server or china cabinet over there, dining area is too small for china cabinet but might be able to have a behind the sofa credenza (for more storage) we also plan to have an area rug in front of the sofa. I am looking for a gray one with texture if I can find one. what do you think of those ideas? Right now the dining area has a work table we're using till we find what we want lol...See MoreToo Trendy?
Comments (19)hmm. I first started thinking about renovating our kitchen in 1990. In 2004, AFTER I had placed my cabinet order, I found the old file of kitchen fliers I had collected. My "2004" kitchen was going to look just like the kitchens I had lusted over almost 15 years before. Medium-dark stained shaker cabinets with black stone countertops (an affinity I most likely developed by spending a lot of time in labs in high school and college and my early adult life. And I especially liked old labs with medium dark wooden cabinets with plain flat panel doors.) It turns out, unbenownst to me, I even ended up with the same cabinet company. Crown Point. Back in 1990/91 they must have been available through the local lumber yard because that's where I had originally seen them and picked up fliers. So my taste hasn't changed much in the last 15 years (fortunately, our ability to afford the cabinets has--as long as we do a lot of diy.) I suggest going with things you've liked for a very long time and to give yourself time to mull over "new" things that seem very exciting. My DH and DD were less attracted to some of the newer trends and were able to direct me away from some of the things I thought I wanted. I'm glad because it turns out that I'm way "over" wanting those items. I think I'll remain happy for a very long time (with the intention that we'll need to change out appliances as they fail) but maybe that's because I'm happy with "boring."...See MoreKitchen update worth it? Comments (20)Do you love the kitchen and how it functions ? If you do then refacing can be an option otherwise it is a waste of money. What I seee in that space is you do not have enough storage and that to me as buyer would be the first thing I would notice . The lower cabinets are dated as to function the upper as to style but it looks like a decent kitchen if you were selling right now. I assume you want to enjoy this space and IMO 40K to fix the things that can't be fixed without new more functional cabinets is a mistake. 5- 10 yrs down the road who knows what people will want .. Declutter it is amazing how much space you can find when you get rid of stuff you honestly don't use. The first step to that is empty all the cabinets then put back only what you actually use and near the place you use it. I start by telling my clients to get rid of all plastic storage stuff and get some glass pieces to replace what you honestly need with a DW it is really minimal what you have to store for leftovers etc. Change all the light bulbs to LED 4000K and then look at your kitchen . What do you really want to change for you. I will say the color choices you are thinking of will be more dated than what you have....See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
