How can I get him to go to the dark side?
Comments (18)I learned long ago if at all possible don't ask a your spouse for input if you even suspect it's not going to jell with what you want to do. Who uses the kitchen the most? Is he in there cooking or cleaning or is he a sometimes visitor who mostly stops in the kitchen on his way else where? If you are the primary person responsible for the cooking and cleaning of the kitchen then it should be done to your wants/needs. If it's not you aren't going to be happy with the remodel. Men are odd creatures. When they say do it your way they really mean do what makes you happy I just don't want to hear complaining about it three months after we are done that it should have been done another way!...See MoreHow do I go about choosing a creamy neutral?
Comments (14)My local SW store is doing a promo of buy $75 in gift cards and get an in-home design consult at no charge. I figured "why not?, I'm going to spend the $ anyway" and a second opinion wouldn't hurt. After all, you don't have to follow their advice if you don't like it. Turns out the young designer/sales person they sent has an art degree and really was helpful re colors and tones. I was looking for just the right shade of white for my LR and she nailed it as well as confirming some other colors I had chosen for another area and making some useful suggestions. I applied the gift cards to a 40% off promotion so total cost was quite reasonable. You might check to see if your store offers the service. By the way, you can buy your paint untinted at the sale price and bring it in later to be tinted after you finalize your colors....See MoreThe reno must go on-BUT I am confused
Comments (10)Thanks for the replies lucille, yep, he's kinda handy, we have done everything in our home ourselves. justgotabm, sorry for the confusion. The pics are the room now, in mid reno. The cabinets are going, in fact they were gone but had to be reinstalled to get us through the last 4 months. It is a little too long and the inside had to be cut up to rehook up. The new shower is larger than the last and bumped the vanity over so it doesn't fit right. And I don't really like the style. Idea #1 Vanity and cabinet shaker style, walnut colored wood (possibly maple), Dark counter, (maybe blue pearl granite, or basalt slate formica), gray blue walls, lots of pot lights to brighten it up. More charcol tiles around the tub, a wood apron to match the cabinets. Maybe a sparkly light fixture to make it pretty. Would this be too dark? Idea #2 vanity style the same but in linen white, add wainscotting around room, and then add your ideas. I have glass doors on the shower so a shower curtain is out. The window is high along the end wall. It is about 8 ' long by about 2' high. This prevents anyone from seeing in but still lets in the light. I can put a colorful WT on it but want something that doesn't shut out too much light. Any ideas on that would be great....See MoreHow to decide between light and airy vs. dark and cozy for living room
Comments (31)Thanks, Monica. : ). Your room looks so homey, and very much like normal life around here. ; ) I was picturing a wall color more like your orange- rust colored pillow when I heard burnished pumpkin. Aimee, it could be partly a function of climate, which might be why I find this to be a challenging decision! That's very interesting that you find cozy colors to be more intimate. I find that appealing, rather than off-putting, but we seldom have "strangers" in our home, and if they are here, I usually want to help them feel welcome and as much a part of the family as possible. Annie, can I come over and stay at your house and see what it's like to live in warm and cozy for a week? : ). I've seen a few pictures of your home, and it looks very warm and inviting. Thanks Lisa. Yes, the little blue library is off our kitchen. The kitchen can just be seen to the right of it. The doorway to the living room is between the library (errr, the bathroom, to be more specific) and the kitchen. Could we possibly get away with a color like this in the living room? This was my absolute favorite room at the home show this year. It's a dark bluish green....See MoreNiche Interiors
