Back Entry Tile When Front Entry is Slate Flagstone?

The flooring of the front entry and dining area of a house we are buying is slate flagstone. We need to put new flooring in the living room, which abuts the slate, and are putting in carpet because we have young children. On the end of the living room opposite the slate flooring, there is an entry to the backyard. We'd like to have a small area of tile or other hardier flooring right next to this door.

What sort of tile do you think would go well with bluish slate? We'd like something that doesn't compete with it but goes well with it.

I thought wood would look nice, but I'm afraid it would get too moist.
