to those of you with entry-ways
Comments (19)Our 'entryway' is our enclosed porch. The floor is wood. I just refinished it last summer and by this, it's already showing signs of wear by the outside front door. My sister has slate in the small area by her front door--it looks nice and really saves the floor. A bakery I used to work with installed a really good, heavy-duty wood floor in the store. It was supposed to last them for 'forever'. within months it was virtually ruined by the traffic coming and going. There's no way, if I had the choice, I'd have wood by a well-used door. Unfortunately, given the configuration of our porch floor, we can't put in anything that adds even a fraction of an inch in height, so tile, carpeting, even a throw rug are out....See MoreWhat "art" would you hang on these entry-way walls?
Comments (33)How about some elegant black iron scroll work? There are scads of varieties and they are often the perfect solution for a wall that needs that certain "something". (The photos are from my home.) I recommend choosing art that a) reflects your interests and b) makes you happy every time you see it. You said you can't your hang travel visas and martinis, but why not? You could frame your travel visas and arrange them under a large matte. For the martinis, you could either buy a painting or print of them or literally frame some martini classes in a shadow box. You might also consider vintage travel posters from places you love or that you've already been to. Your home is very nice!...See MoreDo you have an iron entry door?
Comments (36)Can someone with a WROUGHT IRON ENTRY DOOR, living in Arizona, help me? We are considering purchasing one from a well known company here in Scottsdale, (FI) but can't find out how well insulated they are. The showroom has many beautiful styles, quite expensive, and I would hate to spring for an iron door and be unhappy with it - letting cold and heat in. (We have a single door, and an open pergola above the door which extends to the end of the house in the courtyard) Our home faces west, and in the summer, the sun is awful. The door we are considering has glass inside (low-e offered as an upgrade) which latches and can be opened to get air - screen in front of glass and iron design scrolls in front of screen. I wonder how energy efficient these are, even though they say they have foam insulation in the frame and the door. And, what about rain? Has anyone ever had rain come in through glass? If anyone has had experiences with an iron entry door here in AZ, I would love to hear your comments!!! Thank you so much....See MoreHelp with non entry entryway
Comments (4)Great place! you can definitely treat this as it's own space, you have plenty of room and are on the right track. I love the shelves, a black console wouldn't be my choice but it looks like you like black and white so it should look great!...See MoreCali
