Is it too late to have a foreign exchange student?
Comments (10)The thing that concerns me about your post is that deciding to take on the responsibility for someone else's child, a child who probably speaks English as a second language, etc, really shouldn't be a spur of the moment decision. It should be something you've given a great deal of thought to, and probably some months of planning--to make sure you have the appropriate space, you know about the program that they're involved with, you have touched base with their teachers to make sure everything goes smoothely for them, possibly your family would be taking some 'crash' language classes to help communicate with them. I just don't see getting involved last minute as being the way to go for the best experience for either your family or the visiting child. Make sure you've got all your bases covered and are truly ready to take in a person from another culture, who may have VERY different customs than your family does. If it is too late for this school year, why not consider getting involved with one of the programs where students come for a month or so during the summer. Dsis just had a little 14 year old Spanish girl (from Castille) for a month this past summer. If you plan on doing this next summer, you'll have time to get things in order, plan for some activities and trips, maybe learn something about your student's country and language in the meantime. I will say this, though.. Dsis told me that she really lucked out. Her student was lovely and well-behaved. But she got the best of the bunch, that most of the other families had major probles with the kids they took in (one got the surprise of a several thousand $$$ phone bill! among other things)...See MoreToday is "As Young as You Feel Day"

Comments (11)I love your hardware! I just received an order from House of Antique Hardware too and thought I should share my experience. I ordered unlacquered brass knobs and bin pulls (definitely working with a beer budget here, too, but our 1928 house has the original brass hardware throughout and I was trying to keep it consistent). It helped the I found a coupon code online for 20% off my order. Anyway, the knobs were beautiful, but my bin pulls arrived with blemishes all over the surface of most of them. Clearly I was devastated (cue your soap opera music again!) and called House of Antique Hardware right away. They were amazing. I sent them a few pictures so they could see what was going on, and they immediately shipped out replacement pieces for the entire order! My bin pulls Also I found a great deal on eBay for solid brass cabinet latches. I believe they worked out to be just under $4 each and the quality is (surprisingly) very good! Now to get my cabinets installed and painted so I can put the hardware on!...See MoreI feel older today after working yesterday
Comments (19)Guys, sorry if I got things off topic! I just know I'm tired of hurting and I really need to get out and weed weed weed! My husband and I were out for a bit and did some more weeding, trying to get the vetch out. OMG! It's so dry! We decided to take a rest and go visit my Mom in Hospice and then I'm coming back and watering so the weeds will be easier to get out. I haven't watered since the last rain which was almost 2 weeks ago. That area up there is in full sun almost all day, and the sprinklers can't go up there because it's up-hill and the water valve closest has the least amount of pressure. So I gotta go hand-water!! And I really need to mulch up there too. I started to in the fall, and even cleared out most of the weeds, but they came back with a vengeance with all this rain we've been having! (I'm not gonna complain about the rain...)...See Moreschoolhouse_gw
