What Are You Doing Today?

I am working on food for Sunday. I have the broccoli

cauliflower salad done, the deviled eggs are done. The salad fixings are done and I have to peel carrots for the pot roast and make the cole slaw. I will put the pot roast on in the crock pot later tonight. Tomorrow I will do the oven fried chicken, bake the candied sweet potatoes, and clean the strawberries. I am also puppy sitting for Harley, Angel, and Lily. Izzi is having the most fun today, playing with Lily. Harley and Angel are asleep, I wish I was taking a nap :) What are the rest of you doing today?

DH is taking me to lunch at my favorite place....Ernies!!
When I met up with the other KT gals we went there too.
I love their home made cheese sticks!

It is a very relaxing place with good service and lots of regulars, so we enjoy going.

This is the first warm day - low 70's maybe that we have had in way over a month. I know.... but I am in Florida where our average winter temps is in the high 70's.

So I have been outside in the sunshine working, pulling dead plants and trimming. I know I should probably wait a few more weeks but I have enough work to keep me busy for at least a month so I have to get started.

Cleaned and changed sugar water in my hummingbird feeders. Have seen my immature female feeding a couple times. Yesterday I saw three off and on all day long.

I have work today and am recovering from 4 days of singing. We had our choral performances on Thursday and Friday evening, then 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Our voices are about worn out and we're pretty exhausted. Plus DH came down with a virus, so he actually missed Wednesday's rehearsal and the Thursday and Friday performances. Bummer for him having to miss since we rehearse starting in September and you put all that work into it. He's one of the main first tenors so he was missed. I should explain - we sing in a Living Christmas Tree, which is a really big deal here with over 120 voices, full orchestra, and guest performers. It draws huge crowds, nearly filling the church most performances. Now I'm a bit behind in my Christmas prep but will hopefully catch up this week. Always do.

Not much. No need to cook or bake this year, well I could have made cut-outs but decided not to. Neighbors brought some plus candies, a jar of homemade tortellini soup(! my supper tonight), homemade spag.sauce with a bag of red/green striped tortellini, trail bologna, cheese from another neighbor. Plus I have my little mince meat pies. Too many sweets I really don't need right now. The only running I did today was to Hallmark for another Balsam/Cedar Yankee candle - the large jar size. Love it. My other one is burning very low and getting smoky. Then to a market for some breakfast sausages which they were still out of. Bummer. Then home. The traffic was a nightmare! It was the busiest I've ever seen on a Friday before Christmas. Granted this was at the North End of the city where Walmart and all the big box stores and restaurants are. If not for kind drivers waving me in, I would probably be still sitting there waiting to get into the lane of traffic. I was so happy to see my country roads again.

It was relatively "warm" (high 40's) yesterday and today. Took 2 mile walks both days. I finished cleaning up the flower gardens - I'd waited until the birds had picked the coneflowers and beebalm clean - and then repotted and root pruned nearly all of my potted fruit trees; still have 2 to do, but I ran out of soil. Managed to lose my pruners, too, wondering if I dropped them into a pot before replacing the tree. Sold my indoor bike trainer which I had never ever set up. I had imagined using it while I watched a movie or even a bike race on TV, but I much prefer the elliptical for indoors, and walking or jogging outside weather permitting best of all. Plus my DD left her small lifecycle also when she moved out. I am hoping that I remembered what I paid for it correctly - I think I sold it for the same price. As long as I never find the receipt I will be content! Last thing today was hanging most of the Christmas lights and set up an artificial tree and put lights on it, on the front porch. I didn't get that all finished - I think I need another strand of lights on it, and didn't get the few glittery ornaments on it. I'll do that tomorrow if it is not raining hard. I'll put up the hanging stars on the porch and in the windows closer to the holiday.

Grandson and girlfriend came over and trimmed my hideous tree (another long story that I'm repressing...oh well...). They then set the table for my Monday night family dinner, and then Henry polished the last few pieces of silver that my yard man ran out of time to do. Put the tureen for the centerpiece in my car. I took that to the florist. So, everything is almost ready for Monday night. I need to put the small things that are on trays (to make dusting easier for cleaner) back on the tables, and then I'm ready. Smartest thing I ever did was to hire someone to cook and serve the meal. It's something I've had before that she does (braised short ribs - fabulous!) and know it's good. It will not be a "fancy" meal - just using placemats and all but the sterling flatware and goblets can go in the dishwasher once a year (Wedgwood "Wild Strawberry"). The table still looks festive and pretty and it will be easy and not anywhere nearly as expensive as my usual party. Just a nice family mean. No coats and ties required but I"m hoping for a sweater and not a hoody... We will see..

I've done up my laundry and made a pot of vegetable soup. Still have to fold the clothes. I wait and do it while I'm watching something on tv. Sometimes I just stand at a window, looking out at the sun that's still shining, even though it's starting to cloud up a little. So I stand there and watch some of this huge stockpile of snow slowly starting to recede here and there.

My son is flying in for a quick weekend visit. I am so happy. We like to cook together, so I got all the stuff to make lasagne. Also got some fresh asparagus and a green salad. Maybe I'll pick up some rolls, but the ones at the grocery store all looked unappealing.

Did some laundry, worked out the hotels, itinerary for Fla trip next week....going into the hot tub for a while, then getting ready for an annual club Valentine's dinner tonight - at a restaurant in the country that raises it's own Buffalo meat (I'm getting salmon, as usual).

I've done the grocery shopping, paid the bills, sent some requested info on puppy training to my sister, taken my RX refills to Walmart and prepared lunch. I had planned to plant some onions, radishes , etc. in my new raised beds but the rain has started. I'll work on sorting out cookbooks to give to the thrift store. (Some people get roses for Valentines Day, I get raised beds for vegetables!)LOL Works for me!

I met DS#2's girlfriend for breakfast at a local cafÃ©. We hung around there for a couple of hours and enjoyed a good visit and lots of coffee. :o) Then we went to the Dollar Store for a little shopping. Then Amanda came over to my house for awhile. Since then I've played on the computer and watched some tv. I'm really getting sleepy as I got up at 5am.
I'm invited to a baby shower this afternoon, but I don't think I'm going. I will just give the gift to the grandmother, who is a good friend.
One of my Yaya friends will be in town later this evening and I think we are going to meet for dinner.
My book club meets Monday night and I've only read 2 or 3 pages of my book, so I really need to sit and read.

I went to pick up prescriptions, hit the dollar store, looking for St Patrick Day napkins and decore items. I'm hostess for our senior club in March. Got a few groceries, and then went to the Library. They called and said a book I requested was in, the latest by John Sanford. I'm home now, made lunch for Hubs & I, so now I'm going to spend the rest of the aft. noon reading. Dottie

I have a Red hat Mardi Gras party to attend this afternoon. I'm going as a jester. DH just finished my collar as I type this. Time to go put on my make-up. I have three shades of glitter eyeliner that will have to dry between coats.

Beautiful here, too. I opened the back door to get some fresh air in here. It's 70 outside--finally!!

I made nodakgals caramel rolls for breakfast tomorrow and since I had two more loaves of Rhodes frozen bread, I made a plain loaf, too. It will go good with the Zuppa Tuscana I made (finally) for dinner. Sure smells good in here.

Cleaned out the frig, straightened the house and that's about it.

I did some running around. Went to the bank, Meijers, Target and WalMart. Finally found the washing soda so that I can get my laundry soap made! Found really cute little skirts on sale for Cali for $2 a piece and got a cute pair of socks for her to wear to school on Tuesday(they are having Silly Sock Day!) Bought a few groceries and the rest of the things that I needed to make jambalaya!

Cleaned the kitchen and washed the floor.Took a walk down the street and talked with the neighbors.Came back in and got on this computor.I generally try and take it easy on the weekends as i have all week to do what needs to be done,some days though i don't feel like doing something so put it off.BUT it always catches up to me.LOL

I'm feeling really crappy today, but between naps I did some organizing in the house, tidied a bit in the g/h and planted some stuff, washed my make up brushes and just puttered around. It was warm and sunny in the g/h, so even though I was in slo-mo, it was nice to be in there. Oh, and I walked the dogs around the block too.
