To paint or not to paint stucco?

TLD

We just moved to CO and bought a HCS (hard coat stucco home). The stucco is about 13 yeas old and in pretty good shape (minimal cracking and proper kickout flashings, sealed joints, etc to prevent moisture intrusion). The stucco has never been painted, except for one small front wall (not sure why just this wall was painted...remodel? to cover up damage?)

However, the finish just looks worn and we would like to change the color. We have been given conflicting advice:

1. Have been told it's ok to paint the stucco, as long as the surface is properly prepped and an elastomeric coating is used

2. Have been told never to paint the stucco and instead reskim the surface

3. Have also read about "fogging" or using a colored sealant, but not sure if those are the right choices either

Advice?
